New axim, didnt wait the initial 8 hours properly

just got my axim, i did charge it the full 8 hours for the first time, but while it was charging i used it quite a bit. i loaded a bunch of progs on it, and tried it out ect... however during the first 8 hours i did not unplug it from charging. now i unplug it and after using it for 3 minutes i lose 5% charge. did i make a big mistake by using it while it was charging for the first time? it didnt say anywhere in the manual i couldnt..

I think you will be ok.It will take awhile for the battery charge indicator to calibrate. It's not unusal to drop a few percent when you turn your Axim on.Make sure you turn off all your aps before turning of your Axim.

It is in the small print if you load programs during the first 8 hours it starts a timer on a small explosive built into the Axim. If I were you I would dig a hole in your backyard and put your Axim in it before that timer gets to zero! :)

OK, just kidding. Your fine. Like Tblove said, the meter will settle down after a while. Things like using WiFi and/or Bluetooth, screen brightness, ect. will have a impact on your battery life. Search around, lots of good info on the subject. Anyway, good luck and welcome to AximSite!

Here's the basic story...the 8 hours isn't so much for the main battery, which actually charges very quickly, it's for the back-up battery. I found out this summer, when my battery somehow slipped in the X50v and lost contact, and the back-up battery drained completely, that it takes a LONG time for that battery to charge when fully drained. It was over 4 hours, but I'm not sure how long exactly, because I left the X50v in the hotel room as there were places to see.

And since we're on batteries, and you're new, a couple of other bits of information:

1) You will NOT hurt the Axim by leaving it in its cradle whenever you can.

2) Get the program called Sprite Backup. When you lose everything in RAM memory (and it will probably happen eventually), this program will save your hide. Granted, WM 5.0 may eliminate this scenario...but as it stands, we're all still operating with WM 2003 SE. (or just 2003 for you X5 and X3 owners).

Noxxle, welcome to the site. I remember when I got my ax. I charged it for 7:56 hours. One week later I had to replace the main and backup betteries. Ok, I was also kidding.

Naah ... you'll be OK. The battery "gauge" on these boxes is not unlike the gas gauge on your car. The top amount seems to come off pretty quickly. I thought same at first then I noticed after using the thing all day long that I still had 65-75% of my battery left - and that after playing music for a couple hours as well. Relax, nothing's wrong.

I'm not sure where it states to wait 8 hours. I just always read it from other users on here. I waited... It was sure tough though.

Nah its okay.
Just go plug in a pair of headphones and a SD full of music... listen until you drain the battery to like 20% left then just give it a good long charge after that.

Hah I did the same thing and in return received only 45 mins of battery life...That could of been because it fell out or something shortly after starting the charge...Luckily Dell was so kind as to give me a replacement. Love their customer support!

That's a great lifespan on the X50v. Many of us are under 2 hours of battery life. I don't remember what I used to get on my X30.
