Low on memory already? WTH!

Just got my axim x30 today, Intel 624MHz, 64MB Intel StrataFlash, 64MB SDRAM,802.11b, BT, 3.5iQVGA.

I need it primarily for heavy word processing. Installed Textmaker 2002 (to preserve formatting of my thesis done in Word) and upon opening my thesis I got a message saying I was low on memory and should close Textmaker as soon as possible. I don't want to close Textmaker because that's what's preserving my text format. Besides, running just Pocket Word and Textmaker shouldn't cause the Axim to be low on memory, should it?

What should I do?

Soft reset to clear up any memory leaks.
If you have used pocket internet explorer, open PIE and go into tools ... options ... memory ... select delete files

This should free up some ram.

Also, where did you install you program(s)? Do not select default directory -- instead choose your BIS or storage card to keep your ram free. :approve:

Also check out this memory tutorial by stoneraven9 -- it's excellent!! Click HERE :approve:

Do you have any other programs running in memory? Also, I'm not sure if Textmaker allows it, but you should probably try to install it into BIS instead of the main memory.

I did install into default directory - this is because I'm an idiot.

I will undo that asap and will check out that memory tutorial link - thanks a lot:)

Okay, how do I uninstall Textmaker from default directory? I went to system info, then remove programs, but all that came up was my Dell Thumboard drivers.

I did install Textmaker into default directory, I'm sure of it - so how do I find and uninstall it?

No worries!! I did the same thing with all my programs some time ago. It took a hard reset and re-install of programs to learn! School of hard knocks as they say.

Lots of good info and helpful folks on this site!

Good luck and

If you installed via ActiveSync, you can uninstall through AS too. When your Axim is connected, open up AS on your desktop. Click on Tools - Add/Remove Programs and uncheck Textmaker in the list. Click OK. (Before you do all this, make sure Textmaker is not running by doing a soft reset.)

If it's not there under remove programs, find the folder and delete. You can use file explorer, but it stinks. Download totalcommander HERE . It's a freeware file explorer app and its very small in size!

It's not a good idea to just delete the folder. Often programs have .dll files scattered about and registry changes. Deleting the folder will not get rid of these.

Okay, thanks for the correction Gigi. I certainly don't want to give bad advice! :approve:

Question ... if the program was re-installed, would it not write over the dll files and registry changes?

Yes, I would think it would. I suppose if you're going to reinstall anyway, it might not be so bad. But it's just bad practice in general, since you're not really uninstalling the program, just deleting files. ;)

I can't find Textmaker anywhere, not in ActiveSync and not in the Axim itself, but if I try to open any word doc. in the Axim, then Textmaker automatically starts...crap, what's going on!

Look in the Start menu on your desktop computer. The Textmaker program has a desktop interface that installs on your computer and there may be an uninstall utility there.

I found it in the folder install on my PC - huh, what a moron, I was so determined to uninstall from my Axim and ONLY from my Axim directly. A good lesson to me on my 1st day.
Thanks all:)
