Charging in the cradle through USB?

If I pick up a Dell cradle/dock, will it charge through the USB if I plug it into one of those wall-plug USB chargers (see below)? i.e. is the cradle designed to allow usb charging, or only AC adapter charging?

Thanks

I am not sure about your question, but you can just use the AC adapter you got with your Axim and plug it into the back of the cradle to charge.

Now, I'm not 100% but I really think you can. I've never tried a wall USB device like you show but they should have an output just like a PC USB output. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is that USB charges the axim slower than the A/C adapter. You have to turn the axim off to charge it; USB just doesn't have enough juice to fast charge or power the unit.

I'm not sure if this helps, but here it is:

The standard power carried on a USB line is 5.0V and 450mA. All of the wall plug USB chargers I have seen also adhere to this standard. The Dell Axim cradle requires 5.4V and 2410mA. USB comes up short in a major way. So theoretically, you can not power the cradle or Axim from a USB line.

As for trying it anyway, the lower power would surely charge slower, and it also might damage your PPC. I wouldn't recommend it.

However, it would be an interesting test to put a multimeter to the cradle and see exactly what the output of the charging pins on the dock is...perhaps the output of the cradle for charging purposes is lower than the input power mentioned above. After all, the cradle also has to power that freaky blue DELL LED :) In that case, you may be on to something...

my cradle is almost always connected to my desktops USB port.. and my PDA charges just fine from the USB power source. charging is slow but it works. somebody mentioned that the power carried by the USB line is lower than what the PDA needs. so is charging thru the USB in any way harmful for the ax?
