Arrow Today screen plugin limit

I've noticed that my today screen has a plugin limit of 13. If I install a new program which has a new today plugin, then one of the old plugins disappear. How do I change this limit or bring back the old plugin?

thanks.

The only way to bring back the missing plugins is to uninstall your old ones. If you don't use any of your built in plugins (Tasks, Calendar, Owner, Email) you can delete them from your registry and then reinstall the plugins you uninstalled.

I created a folder in my registry called "Today Old" with a subfolder called "Items" in which I keep copies of all my Today Plugins registry entries from the actual Items folder. This way if I install a program which has a plugin which I wont use, I can copy it's entry into the Old folder and replace any entry which accidentally got deleted.

The registry location of the Today Plupins is

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items "

Remember that just deleting these entries will not bring back your missing plugins, you will have to uninstall one of your plugins for this to happen (Unless someone knows where the system dumps the excess Today items when you install a fourteenth plugin)

As I said above I just created a new folder in my registry called "Today Old" which appears directly below the "Today" Folder in which I keep copies of all my plugin registry folders. (Though I can't find a registry copy of the built in Email or Owner plugins, I must have deleted them before I started to do this)

ok.. let me get this.. so if I delete some unwanted plugins from the registry and then reinstall the plugins that I want, then I'll have control over the limited (13) today plugins? coz now if I install one more plugin then I'll lose my email plugin from the today screen. and there seems to be no control over which item gets deleted next. they should really fix this. or is it already done in WM5?

Not sure if this is fixed in WM5, but it has been a limitation of the Pocket PC O/S from the beginning. I think more people are reaching the limit now because so many programs are including Today plugins with them.

The first thing to do is edit the registry to remove any today items you don't intend to use. If one of those is a second party plugin (not built into the O/S) use the systems remove program dialog to remove it. If you have no second party plugins you want to remove you will still have to uninstall one to get the system to recover the missing plugins. Pick one which you have easy access to the registration info for and use the system uninstall dialog

Before you do anything else after the uninstall check your Today settings and see if the missing plugins have reappeared. Normally they will if you use the systems remove programs dialog and free up enough space for them.

Then just install any other missing plugins keeping in mind the 13 plugin limit.

problem is that most of the today plugins I have are actually just side features of actual programs. for example vito sound explorer or conduits pocket player. I use these programs all the time.. just don't need the today screen plugin feature. there should've been an easy way to remove/disable the today feature for individual programs (so that it wouldn't take one of the 13 spots) without having to uninstall the whole program.

Yeh, what can I say, I didn't design the O/S or the program installs. It would definately work differently if I had.

Like I said remove what you don't need manually with a registry editor, but one Today plugin you will have to uninstall in the usual way to make the system look for the lost plugins. As long as you have freed up enough space you should be able to reinstall whatever you had to remove.
