x30H Great Overclock (~ 20% !)

I've been messing with Pocket Hack Master 2005 v3.15, and I’ve reached a rather impressive overclock.

Note: Not all X30H are created equal. Try these settings at your own risk.

The original "Max Performance" speed is
624 MHz, 208 Bus, 104 Memory, and 104 LCD

The highest stable overclock I can get is
598 MHz, 299 Bus, 150 Memory, and 75 LCD
(L:23 N:4 A:1 LCD_26:0 or 1 w/ Turbo and Fast Bus in PHM)

Here is a simple benchmark running Morphgear,
emulating the Sega Genesis
running Sonic & Knuckles
Sound On (44khz)
Image smoothing Off
Frame Skip 0

624 MHz - ~29 FPS
598 MHz - ~35 FPS (20% Speed Increase)

This has allowed me to play almost any Genesis, SNES, or GBA game without a huge drop in quality. I'll be willing to run SPB Benchmark later if anyone want's the before and after scores.

Best of all, it's very stable. I played for about an hour straight without noticing any extra heat from the unit.

The Overclock does have its drawbacks. There isn't a noticeable increase in temperature in my Axim, but it does cause a problem with my LCD screen. From what I can tell, lowering the LCD below 81 causes a refresh rate problem that my eyes can see. At 75, it is only noticeable on certain things, like the three lines in the middle of the scroll bars. Another problem is the power drain. On top of that, my battery can't provide enough power to run the wi-fi (Bluetooth works). The unit will either report that the network card can't be identified, or it will start, but not send/receive packets.

Overall, this is one great performance jump. The LCD doesn't present a problem to me (you won’t notice the flick running Morph Gear, except when you select a game to run), and I really don't have a reason to run the wi-fi with this setting, so I’m happy. It's great for emulating, at least with the extended battery.

If you’d like other information (spb benchmark results, battery rundown time, ect...), just post below and I’ll run them later.

I remember someone posting how he managed to get a 1GHz PPC working
but in fact the CPU multiplicator was high but everything else (bus, LCD, RAM...) was very low

see you
