CF Wireless Card errors

Can anyone help, I recently purchased a Netgear CF Wirelss card MA701, but can't get my X5 to recognise it, every time it gives me the error "Unknown cartd in socket 1". I've tried a differnt wireless card Speedstream 802.11b Compact Flash II WiFi Card, which gave the same error. Am I doing someithing wrong or could i have 2 duff cards?

Did you install the correct drivers first? Check on the support sites for the most up-to-date version.

What do you mean 2002 will not support wifi? I used the Linksys card very well with my PPC2002 device.

Remove the card from the slot and soft reset. After the PPC starts up, make an activesync connection and install the drivers (use the ones you downloaded as long as you have WM03 on your X5. If your PPC has PPC02, go back to the site and get the previous drivers). After the installation is complete, soft reset again. When the device is back to the Today page, insert the card. If it asks for the card name, try prismnds.dll.

If this does not work, you may need to do a hard reset because something you did before installing the correct drivers is blocking the recognition of the card. Then, follow the directions I just gave. If you do this, make a backup so you can get back to the current condition if the hard reset does not work. If it does work, you'll probably need to reinstall any software since restoring the backup will likely restore the problem.

Many thanks for replying to my post. Well I tried the soft reset, still got the unknown card error, so then tried the hard reset and still the same error.
I am correct that that I'm running PPC 2003, About tells me that it's version 4.20.1081 build 13100.

Yes, v 4.2... is WM03. So you did a hard reset, installed the drivers (from here before ever inserting the card) and still got that message? That would suggest a faulty card. You may as well restore the backup you created before the hard reset and call Netgear about replacing the card.

I would agree with you howver I also purchased a card from Ebay (speedstream s2521) and this gave me the exact same problem! the slot i sfine as I use a CF GPS plus a CF Bluetooth. I'm not sure if I've just hit unluck with 2 different cards, or if I haev a different issue.

Oh man I hate to suggest this, however, I had the same problem with a CF not being recognized and it drove me crazy for weeks. Sometimes it would be rec'ed, times it wouldn't, and times I was requested to reinsert the card. Frustrating... I had all drivers installed and the type of card I was using also had the drivers onboard! It wasn't until I pressed the card down while the card was initializing that I discovered it was a pin connection. If you discover the drivers being recognized while pressing the card down; for a temp fix, take a matchbook cover, fold it in half and cut to 3/4" wide and place it on top of the card at the card's center (that width is perfect); then insert both CF and matchbook together. The CF Card should then be recognized and its driver(s) loaded during initialization. (I've been doing this for a year now and it is not a 100% perm fix -- I really need to that one to the shop to determine if the problem is the card's sockets or Ax's pins connection to the circuit board).
