charging with the cradle

can i just leave the axim on the cradle all day, without the messing up the battery?

Yes, it will be fine and better than letting the battery discharge.

Lithium Ion batteries have a built in protection circuit that basically stops the battery from charging when it is full. So, even if it is connected to the power supply, it technically isn't charging after it is full.
