TRENDnet TE-CF100 CF Network Adapter

Two Floppy disks accompany the card. 1 Windows CE disk and 1 Windows PC Driver disk(using a PCMCIA Adapter). The setup program(900k or so.), once uncompressed, installs a 28k driver(le100.dll) to the windows directory on the Axim. Don't tell me size matters not! :crooked:

No other software is installed, so there is no tweaking network settings.

It takes about 30 seconds for the card to start once you power on the Axim. During this time you can not do anything on the Axim.

This is a Wired Network card that does 10/100 Half & Full Duplex. As for actual throughput I don't have anything to test it with, but I've hooked it up at home and work.(Home Hawking 10/100 hub, work Cisco Catalyst 3550 Switch. It definitely negotiates at 100 Full Duplex on the switch.)

$38.99 from Buy.com.

not working yet.

I got mine in the mail today. eager to use it. however when I run the set up it looks for a connection and is unable to find one. even though I have just activesynched using my standard usb cradle. instructions say to connect using serial in com 1 or 2. any ideas. I will keep looking but trend net so far has no new downloads.

Im an idiot newbie.

Trendnet very unhelpful. No support available on website. I was trying to run the set up from inside the winzip utility. I had to extract it to a folder on my home pc and then it would connect to the Axim. ran fine. I did have to reset 2x to finally get it to connect but no biggy.

Just FYI for any other newbie.

Newbie here.

I'm preparing to purchase one of these because of the nature of my work ( purely diagnosis-type activity, actually ). Might you have anything else to report on this card? How is its long-term driver functionality? As in, if I leave it running for several days at a time, is it capable (in your opinion) of stable operation?

What do you think of its battery consumption?

Trendnet ethernet adaptor

So Far it has been working fine. I would say the stability issues would more likely be driven by the X5. however since I have the trendnet ethernet adaptor I could do a test for you.
Say play music at 56k from www.di.fm for 1 hour and check the battery status. the only applications will be my today plug ins and windows media player.
I will give an update after a while.

update.

I installed the Trendnet ethernet adaptor and played music from www.di.fm at 32K (56k unavailable). I had only windows media player active and I turned off the backlight and played music for 1 hour. my battery currently at 75 (stock battery that came with the X5).

here is a link to there website for more data. I once found a website that compared all cards. what worked, what didn't and what the power ratings were for each one. but I have not been able to find it.

Fair test, thanks for the update! Are you permitted to set multiple IP aliases for one adapter or is that a bit too advanced for WM2003?

Not sure. You may want to check with the guy who writes the guide for wifi ( IKEHIKER). he seems to be fairly knowledgable about the networking stuff. I personally just started so lots of things are new to me. Good luck.

Thanks for the help -- I'll lurk a bit more and ask again after I start to mess around with the innards of things first.

Any updated status on your 10/100 adapter? I'm finding I desparately need network connectivity (either wired or wireless) ASAP to enhance the functionality of my X5.

Has it been working ok? Any residual driver issues? How is the auto-negotiation? Bulk? Power consumption?

Thanks for any extra info you've got!

The CF-100 uses more power the my Linksys WFC-12 Wifi NIC.
(i have not made anny time mesurements)
It seems that the card is always i auto-negotion mode. I would realy link to be able to force it to 10 or 100 but havnt found anny way to do this.
But i have found a way to manually install the driver, without using active sync, if annybody is interestet.

Well, in the nature of the work that I am in, I went ahead and ordered one of these cards so I'd be interested in how you installed it for certain.

Thus far, the Axim has been quite a useful utility; however, without connectivity away from a USB Sync cradle or cable, it's just not up to par (yet). Hopefully, this will change that. Now, to find better network diagnostic utilities for it.. ;)

update from Vacation.

What a trip. I went to West Tx for vacation. On the internet the Best Western I found said it had Dataports for internet access. Nope. Only a phone connection and nearest ISP was in another county. So I went to the College Library in the town and they don't have access to allow me to update my Axim wired/wireless. So I go 26 miles to another town and use the local library and they have a table set up for laptops to connect to the internet. Very Small Town.
I was able to use the 10/100 adaptor and just plug in. No issues whatso ever.
Cool now I am on my way to East TX and stop off at a Best Western that actually has data ports. I tried for several hours and was never able to get an ISP. The computer in lobby worked fine so the dataport was active. Figured I messed up some configuration since activesynch kept trying to stay on.
I walk in the house today and just plugged in after reading this posting and it connected right away.
Now I am still new to this but I don't think there is that many ways to change the configuration. I did try a few time to see if any of the places I was at had WiFi but no signal showed.
It is not that bulky. weight wise it is circuit pcb so it ways very little. Driver wise I think it is internal to the 10/100 adaptor. so long as you don't soft reset it while it is in the Axim it should be good. Power consumption I think is less then the WiFi but I haven't done a fair test for that one yet.

I followed IkeHikers guide and was able to get active synch to work with the wifi. Now I prefer to use it instead of the usb cable.

Good Luck.
