DSI Holster Review
I received this case about a week ago. It was $29 with free shipping from dsi-usa.com, which isn't all too bad at all. I actually am very happy with this case. When I was looking for a case, my main requirements were:
1. It would have a flip top cover, since I often read an ebook, and those ones that fold around the side of the case won't work. Ones such as the innopocket aluminum case don't fold around at all, which would be a hassle for me.
2. The case musn't add too much bulk to the case. I carry the case in my pocket most of the time, and I'd like to keep it as small as possible.
I first considered getting the cover-up from pocketsolutions.com. However, I wanted greater protection for the rest of the PDA besides the screen. I thought that $25 plus $5 shipping was a bit steep for the case. I then considered getting a leather case, most probably the Krusnell case, but then I stumbled upon the DSI case. While I like leather cases, they tend to add more bulk than I'd like. The DSI case doesn't add too much at all. It adds about an inch to the back, though it only goes as far as the battery. This is so that you can use both the normal and the extended battery. As for the front, it adds a few inches, but I am certainly willing to live with that for the screen protection. The front has a latch that locks the screen down, and it also has a little knob on the front of the cover where one would attach the clip. It came with one of the standard one-handed release clips, but I don't clip it to my belt. The clip seems very secure, though. The cover also has notches on the hinge, so that the cover will remain open at specific places. The cover won't go all the way behind, but it does go a bit more than 180 degrees back, so that it doesn't get in the way of anything. There are cutouts for everything, and the top is completely uncovered. It is held in securely with a small piece of plastic. There are also cutouts on each side so that the rubber grips are exposed, which I find to be a very nice feature. You can sync the device with the cable, but I don't have a cradle so I'm not sure if that will work. Overall, I think this is a fine case. I do wish they had some sort of cover for the battery part that could be removed if you wanted to use the extended battery. Still, the cover goes below the bottom edge of the device, so that if it was to be droppped, the cover would take the impact. While the device is not made of aluminum, which would be preferred for strength, the plastic seems more than strong enough. The easy way I would describe this case would be that it is like the cover-up, but with more coverage for the entire PDA, as well as a locking device to keep the screen down. I use this case and the G2 screen protectors from pdascreenprotectors.com (the best on the market, as I've tried writeshield, brando, etc) and I'm sure that my axim will be in great shape for the foreseeable future.
