DSI Case Impressions:
I have had my silver ABS case for a weekend now, and thought I would post my initial thoughts. The case arrived a week late from Executive PDA – supply issues. I am a Canadian, and the exchange makes this a fairly pricey venture when you include 2 day shipping. Regardless – it is here.
The case fits quite snug – I am concerned about regular removal given the plastic tab that holds the Axim in place, drags across the Axim – not the screen, just outside of the screen. No visible marks yet. It does offer decent protection, even if it is ABS – without adding weight. The Axim is hardly svelte, to begin with – so this is not a problem for me. The first day I had the case, I liked that the cover seemed to have a ratchet that allowed the flip cover to stay in several positions – as others have predicted, this has since worn away in just a couple of days.
The holster works great – just remember to snap the enclosure for the cover, or you get caught with your Axim dangling in public, as happened to me shopping with groceries with the family this weekend. No big problem – just something to keep in mind (just a little embarassing).
I do like having access to all the inputs, slots etc., and that I can hold the Axim’s rubber grips. I like that it is light weight, and not too bad looking. I avoid the leather PDA cases – the “European Carry All” episode of Seinfield “My purse, my purse, someone stole my purse!!!”. Mind you, my wife thinks that it is pretty geeky to walk around with a silver PDA case on your belt, but I wander from the subject at hand.
In the end, I would say that the case is fairly pricey for what you end up with – decent, light weight protection, with the holster, and access to the Axim’s ports and grips. The “holster nub” on the cover, the potential for scratching from frequent removal, the 1-day ratchet feature, not being able to sync using the cradle are all negatives. Would I buy it again? Not for the price – given the exchange rate for us Northern exposed.
