problems with Excel

I have lost all the data from Excel 2000 spreadsheets that I have synched with my X5. All that shows up in my X5 is a message at the top of the screen that says: "This sheet is a placeholder for an unsupported sheet type".

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem, please? I am running XP on my PC.

Another question: on ActiveSynch it seems like there is an option for Pocket Access, but I can't find that program on my X5. Did the X5 not come with PocketAccess loaded? Is there any way to download PocketAccess to my X5?

I am a newbie and fairly PDA and computer challenged so please explain using really simple language. I would greatly appreciate any help offered.

Thanks very much.

What type of spreadsheets are they - do they have graphs and/or charts in them? Were they originally created on your PC?-Sounds like they may contain things not supported by Pocket Excel/Excel Mobile?

As far as MS Access, I do not think a PPC version exists?

SiJen,

MtGeorge likely has the solution. Another may be the settings you have in ActiveSynch for converting files. Take a look at those too.

Good luck and welcome to Aximsite!

Hi Mtgeorge!

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, I haven't checked this site for a while.

The spreadsheets I am trying to synch are just client lists, names, numbers, addresses etc. There is no special formatting, other than centering, word wrap etc.

I created an Excel document on my X5, and it synched perfectly to my PC. I then added a few more entries on my PC and tried to synch back to the PDA. When I opened up the document on the PDA I got the old familiar error message: "This sheet is a placeholder for an unsupported sheet type", and all my data was gone!!!

I am so frustrated I could toss my X5 in the garbage can!!

What I don't understand is that I synched my PDA and my PC for months with no problems. Then, suddenly, I started getting this error message and I lost all my data on my PDA. The data is still on my PC, thank goodness.

Amy said something about checking my settings in Activesynch for converting files. How do I do that, and what should the settings be?

I might add that this problem seems to occur only in Excel. All my appointments, tasks, etc seem to sych fine. Word docs are fine too.

Thanks for the help guys.

I know this might be a few years too late and in the wrong forum, but in case anyone else sees this, I'm an experienced Windows Mobile user with the same problem. I found Excel Help Best Practices Forums - View Single Post - Macro warning, Functions don't work, and ActiveSynch Problem which seems to indicate that, after manually fixing the files, you should turn off Excel desktop-to-device conversions.

However, I'm eventually going to upgrade or downgrade either ActiveSync or Windows Mobile (or both). I didn't have the problem in the PPC2002, but I do in WM5, which has given me countless other problems as well. It's a drastic solution, but it's one that will hopefully solve lots of problems at once. (Others online similarly recommend an uninstall/reinstall of ActiveSync or even a service pack for Excel.)

Not sure if my last reply posted, but, although many have recommended changing settings, that might not work for all configurations. Reinstalling, upgrading, or downgrading (starting with ActiveSync) would be the best bet for this. In order to restore the files, you might want to do a manual cut-and-paste job on the PC, too.

Biomobility Home - MS Access program for the PDA

This site has a program called Data on the run 5. I've used it on my X5, but ran into some problems. It worked...for a while, but when I synced it, it would crash every once in a while.

Might help you out.
