Thumboard?

Hey, I really like the whole axim thing... tommorow I'm going out to take advantage of compusa's Linksys CF card deal ($70 retail, $40 mail in rebate!) and in about a week or two I'll have enough for my precious axim!

The whole 802.11b thing seems so cool to me... I've read about some people using AIM on these? I just have a few questions:

1. Are there any commercial thumboards out that are compatible with the axim? I have a t-mobile sidekick and I love the keyboard... there's no way I'm using a soft keyboard for chatting on aim =P

2. Does a PPC version of ICQ exist?

3. Does a PPC equivilent of trillian (multiple IM systems) exist?

Anyway... I'd just love to be able to lounge about and chat with the axim =) Thanks for any help.

Thumb Keyboard

Dell has a Snap on Thumb Keyboard. You have to order it by phone - can't order it online.

The only place I could find it listed on Dell's site was under the configuration option.

I would be interested in what case/cover/holster you end up using with your Ax with the Snap on Thumb Keyboard.

I'm not sure if I'll be using a case for it while I'm home just surfing the web and such. I've used a Palm Vx for about a year and a half on and off during school for assignments and other stuff, I intend to use the Axim for the same things and more coming this fall... it's sortof going to replace my Vx... which is just a *little* old =) Are there any pictures of the axim thumboard? I'm curious to see what it looks like... and I'd love to know what people who've used it think of the device.

Hey, in case anybody's intrested... I found a picture of dell's thumboard.

The only real question I have left is whether there is a version of AIM for the PPC and/or if there is a version of ICQ for the PPCl.

You can find AIM at www.aim.com for the PPC, unfortunately they charge for it.

AIM is available from AOL for $19.99, however, with a short trip to England, you can get it for free. Don’t worry, you don’t have to actually go to England – just point your mouse at the downloads at the top of this page, then click on Internet. AIM is the first item.

i believe icq does have a pocket version and if mirabalis themselves don't produce one i do remember seeing one i believe on download.com that allowed you to connect to their service with most all the basic functionality required by most users. as for aim, i'm not sure. wi-fi is a blast! i have the netgear ma-701 and thoroughly enjoy sniffing around town for new (and wide-open) hotspots running. let us know how that thumb board works out for ya if you get it, i'm kinda interested in that myself! kinda disheartened to find that its a little wider than the axim itself but doesn't look too bad.

only problem with all these nifty gadgets is with me about to purchase the rhino-skin aluminum, there's no place to store them all! (i'm using the dell slip case now and have a place to store my wifi card at least)
