Fixed my IR Keyboard issue, might help others...

I just got my Axim about a week ago and have been having some fun with it. This thing makes a great secondary brain for me! It's really my first good PPC. The last thing I used was one of those Psion things.

Anyway, I grabbed a Micro Innovations IR Keyboard off of Ebay for $11 ($.99 bid + $10.00 shipping -yeah....), it was cheap so who cares.

So, my Ax has WM2003 on it and the driver for the Pocketop keyboard is for 2002. I was optimistic and installed it per the instructions (no CF card, used ActiveSync). It looked like it installed okay, but there was no option for Pocketop keyboard like there should have been. I had to do a couple of soft resets to be able to uninstall the driver. I figured I had a $11 paperweight now. I decided to try one more thing. I loaded the CAB file directly on the Axim and then ran it. It worked!

Now I just need to stop hitting ctrl-del when I mean to hit ctrl-right arrow and I'll be all set! :D

Well, I tried all that, and it didn't work for me... (I have an Axim X5 running PPC 2003) - I get that "couldn't open COM port" error message.

Earlier I managed an install which gave me the Pocketop menu and no errors, but it still didn't work (as a keyboard). One of my problems had been that I'd disabled the IR ports to give my Bluetooth driver a couple of extra COM ports to work with. Re-enabling those ports lets me beam stuff to and fro between my Palm and the Axim, but the keyboard doesn't work.

I know it's not the battery or anything, as I use the keyboard regularly with my Palm...

I got the same error: "couldn't open COM port" error message. Any idea on how to make it work?

You have to go into the settings folder, then connections and then click on beam

you have to make sure that "receive all incoming beams" isn't checked off ... the keyboard should work after that
