DSI case - impressions. . .good, but it's going back
After months of waiting around and using a $20 targus purse-like case that I bought at Best Buy - I finally decided to by one of the made-for Axim cases.
I bought the DSI because it seemed to serve my purposes - belt clip is important - good protection - and be functional to use during meetings.
I received it last week from aximcases.com - which is actually called superbuyonline.com.
A SIDE NOTE - this site gave me very good service. When I ordered I had accidently not included the mailstop from my work and I sent them an email - they corrected it immediately so it came in 2 days to my work.
Anyway, like another reviewer commented - the case just comes in a box with a plastic bag. this really doesn't matter to me - as long as the case is good.
Well the case - it is good and it does everything it is advertised to do. It holds the Axim perfectly. . .it has a very nice cover. . .the plastic is indistinguishable from the axim. . .and it seems to provide good protection.
BUT BUT BUT. . .this is all a matter of preference, but there were a couple of things that I just didn't like about it.
(1) Too bulky - I've always had the axim in my hand 'as is,' and ultimately using the Axim inside the DSI just seemed too darn big. . like a big brick in my hand.
(2) Further, it was weird to look at the screen once there were these big plastic sides sticking up. . .in other words, the screen seemed very recessed which I didn't like.
(3) One side note - when I pushed down on the plastic on the left side - it seemed to active the screen as if I had used a stylus. . .This I didn't like.
(4) Finally - the dork factor. I just couldn't see myself carrying this around to meetings. The small purse-like belt case I use, although dorky to carry around, isn't very noticeable. The DSI just won't cut it in a business setting.
(5) Oh. . .and the inability to use the cradle for syncing. I realized immediately how much I love using the cradle and being able to see my axim and get messages/reminders from it. I definnitely won't purchase another case that isn't cradle accessible.
So - I've decided to return it. I sent an email to superbuyonline.com asking them about their return/refund policy and have inquired about the Galanteya leather case (which is on their website and is cradle accessible). I'll let you know how their customer service is for returns. . .I'm holding my breath and hoping. The invoice did say "if you aren't happy for any reason," email us and we will work with you to figure out a solution. My backup is the Bellagio. Does anyone know what this Galanteya case is like?
I just got mine last week. Overall, I do like it. The only problem I have is that I don't have enough strength in my fingers to actually turn my Ax on with the power button. I have to pop my SD card out. It is kind of annoying but I am hoping it will loosen up a bit after some use. This case is primarily used on the Axim that I gave to my daughter to use. I appreciate the way it protects the screen :). But still debating on the power button.
I have a DSI... I like it... at least I think I do. I like having a hard case to protect my axim. I had a Rhino first but I didn't like the side opening door. So i picked up the DSI... I don't like the fact that it is made out of plastic. However, I do like how it protects the screen and how the cover gets out of the way for the most part. I think that the DSI is the least bulky hard case out there for the axim. I think they would do good in releasing an aluminum version, I know I'd get one.

Did not like it. Sold it. Like my Rhino softcase better. As the orignal poster indicated and I did not think about at the time the "Geek" factor of having a silver hunk of plastic on my belt turned me off. I like the plain balck of the RHINO better.
I also love mine. The case is sturdy (I dropped my axim once in the holster from about 4 feet onto a hard floor with no ill effects), the fit is secure, the screen protection is great ... all good. I even like the belt clip. I had a leather case, but I am very pleased with my DSI holster.
Update on Service - The President of Superbuyonline called me directly in response to my email and said that a full refund and/or exchanges would be totally o.k.
I still find it hard to believe that others don't find it even somewhat bulky. WMRAWLS seems to get it!!

Except for my inability to spell worth a dang I do get it.Or at least in some cases I do.
As an HP Jornada 568 owner who has moved over to the Dell Axim, the DS International case suits me to a "t". For me, among the superior benefits of the Jornada 568 over its Ipaq competitors when it came out was its flip cover. The DSI case offers something close to what the Jornada 568 has PLUS it accommodates the extended battery. I still put it in the original Dell case and it is a bit bulky, but...I have not found another that satisfies me as much and approximates what I liked about the HP 568. And yes I do have large hands, so I can still wrap my left hand around the Axim and DSI case without feeling like I am holding a big rock.
Key point is that there is something for everyone and just becasue I don't like somethign does not mean it is a bad product or inferior...just for me or my application or desire it is not a good fit.
There is almost always something that will fit the needs of each individual.
