I doubt it. First, the CF slot of the Axim only outputs 3.3V. Also, it would have to either have the drivers (which it wouldn't), or be able to identify itself as a storage card, like the PCMCIA Hard Drives that I got do. I don't know exactly though.

i saw such an adapter on dell a few weeks ago

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/P...=19&iCompatid=

anyway, i cant comment on any voltage compability issues, but i have see this device used on another PDA with a pccard wifi adapter.

it never hurts that compactflash has a full implementation of ATA.

I just got the Ax and already have a Bonzai USB storage device that accepts SD/CF cards (you can remove/replace the cards which is unique to the Bonzai USB).

Is there a cable that connect from the Ax sync to the USB Bonzai? I have an aftermarket sync cable with USB at the other end to plug into wall/car charger.

With a male/female USB adapter (I think I already have one of those) will the Ax recognize the Bonzai-- anyone tried something like this-- or will I fry all my stuff or something?

Just trying to avoid buying more hardware if possible, like the CF drives described above.

I think you are going to need the CF card. The connection on the bottom of the Axim is a serial port and I don't believe it can handle a hard drive.

Nobody's mentioned this yet, I don't think

I don't think anyones mentioned this yet...... Someone is currently making a CF to usb adapter that puts a USB connector onto a CF card that can be inserted into the AXIM CF slot (only one company making it, if you do a google search it should pop right up "CF to usb adapter" is what I searched on).

I'll bet it's just the connection and power might be an issue but with a toy like this you could get something like the Archos multimedia jukebox 20 (which has its own power supply) and connect it to your axim, 20 gigs in a package the size of a pack of cigarettes, drivers might of course be the problem but when the archos is connected to my desktop it's just seen as a hard drive so I don't see why this couldn't work on the axim if it can already see external drives. Anybody with more indepth knowledge of this kind of thing out there that can comment on this? I already have an Archos and I was thinking about ways of storing mapopolis maps without investing another two hundred in a gig CF card (of course this CF/usb gadget is not much cheaper than the CF card would be and might be more troublesome).

I have read a bunch of posts speculating why this USB adaptor wouldn't work on the Axim. I am not sure of the details, and I don't know if anyone knows for sure, but I don't think it works.

On a side note, I was reading on GPS Passion of a guy that hooked an Archos 30GB drive up to his Toshiba, which have an available USB port for the bottom of it.

PCMCIA to USB Adapter

Has anyone tried using a PCMCIA to USB Adapter connected through a CF to PCMCIA adapter like the ones in the link below?

http://www.usb-2-0.com/usb-2-0-cardbus-card.html

I'm currently using a Semson's CF to PCMCIA adapter (http://www.semsons.com/comflastopcc.html) with a 5GB Kingston Datapak. It works great with the X5 for DIVx movies and MP3s. But the 1440 Axim battery only lasts about 2.5 hours (while watching movies). I've built my own external D-cell battery pack for the X5 to extend that time, but I'm interested in a larger external drive with its own power source like these:

http://www.anypakusa.com/

These guys have certified their drive for the toshiba e7** and bundle the PPC 2003 drivers. But the PPC 2002 USB driver is available free at http://www.deje.gmxhome.de/download.html.

Anyone?
