Ummmm. I just read the blurb about the new Yomi case, and I have seen many other ads for cases with magnetic closures. Now correct me if I am wrong, but is it not a bad thing to have ANY kind of magnet on or near such things as computer storage media, credit/debit cards, etc.?????
This occurred to me because, on a recent trip to Laughlin, NV to visit my parents, my wife had a pocketbook with magnetic closures, and managed to wipe out/render useless a bunch of her slot cards. Not an important loss, but kind of annoying. Not the sort of thing I would like ot have happen to my credit cards, however. Or my SD card, for that matter.
Just a thought. But I would be very hesitant about getting any case with that type of closure on it. Give me a snap, velcro or a zipper. Anything but a magnet.
The magnets are placed far enough away from any storage cards on most magnetic cases. I've never heard anyone claim their magnetic case damaged or erased their PDA or storage cards. I use a Vaja magnetic case which is about as high quality as cases get. If Vaja feels safe putting magnets in one of their products, I feel safe to use it.

"For 24 straight hours, we left a floppy disk with a short MP3 file, a PDF and a JPG file sandwiched between two magnets (mmm...magnet sandwich...mmm). One day later, all the files were fine. "
On that particular test, they got lucky. Floppies are magnetic media and it doesn't take all that strong a magnet to begin erasing data. Not the same as solid state chip storage. Not even similar. You can degrade a floppy or a cassette tape (remember those?) just leaving it on an unshielded stereo speaker.

I also have a Piel Frama, and can say 100% that the extra-strong magnet they use has no ill side effects on the Axim or credit cards.

I an a gadet freak and my covertec case with a magentic closure scares me. I couldnt find a nice leather case with out magnetics on it. I even bought a demagnetizer from sears but it didnt work. Its suppose to be for screw drivers and demagnetizing re/magnetizing them. I even read that if you whacked the magnet enough times, it will demagnetize it. Particles will scatter and it'll just be a regular piece of metal.
I'had an EB case with magnet on my iPaq 3970 for over a year, an EB case for my 5455/5555 since December with the same CC's in them and there have been no problems. I don't use the case to store extra SD cards since I don't have any extras.
Location: dallas metro TEXAS where everything is bigger, atleast they say so.

guys (and gals) dont be so paranoid, if some company makes PDA cases for a living, i'm pretty sure they'd make sure their magnets arent strong enough to screw stuff up, if magnets that size even can, just use your case and don't worry about it, but if u have a problem, sue them, most of us are in america anyway.

I've got the Covertec, and the magnetic spot for the closure is so small, and it's even on the back. I haven't noticed one problem. I like the magnetic closure, it stays secure without much work from me. I hope that helps.
