Axim USB Sync/Charging Cable
I understand that a USB charging cable is not going to provide the high power provided by the dell charger, but I was wondering if there is a quality difference between different USB charging cables.
Belkin makes one that is around $20. On ebay, you can easily find them for $4 or $5. Is there a difference?
I am less worried about the quality of the charger and more worried about negative effects on my Axim. I don't want to cheap out on a charger and end up paying in the end by ruining my Axim's battery, etc. I've heard in the past that aftermarket chargers for cell phones decrease the life of your battery.
Is there any chance that these cheap charges could have negative effects on my Axim / battery?

Couple days ago Dell was selling Belkin sync/charger for around $7.45. Do a search using "Axim". You will get alot more items in search. Just checked and they are still showing as $7.45, good deal. I have been using Belkins for about 3 months now with no problems.

A USB charger will charge at a slower rate than the cradle as the USB spec is 500mA per USB port (at 5V). Still it is more than enough to do a chrage, just be patient .

I just checked the link above...and it lists it at $18.95.
Is there a rebate if I put it in my cart, or is the deal over?
Thanks.

search ebay with "axim cable" you will find lots of USB charing cbales for less than $10.
Anyoen found a cheap Axim->serial cable, I don't want a cradle, just a link cable to talk to serial devices via some kinda hyper terminal.

So far, I have purchased several travel chargers for my X5 and none of them seem to work. 2 of them were the simple car chargers with the round connection like you have when you disconnect the O.E.M. charger cable from the cradle and my latest purchase was the USB Sync./Charger with the connection that looks like a 25 pin connector. The USB Sync./Charger syncs. perfectly;but, none of them seem to charge. Is there a trick to this?

As per other threads in the forums, some people have problems with USB sync/chargers ranging from not charging to apparently discharging the battery - about 1% per second!
The issue seems to stem from the power of the USB port on varying computers. In many cases simply powering off the Axim will enable it to charge, and sometimes even just completely dimming the backlight by pressing and holidng the power button for a second will suffice.
Hope this helps.

I have been using a USB charger cable on my Axim to charge from my pc only, and also a Nextel i90c with the car adapter, and have had no problems, they both seem to charge fairly well. But, I used a USB charging cable with the AC adapter on a Samsung A500 for a couple of hours and when I picked it up, it was burning hot! I know that the cell phone may behave differently than a pda, but now I'm a little skepticle about charging my Axim with the AC travel charger.

CyberPilot, you would have much better luck with mailorder. Last week, I was out looking for generic accessories, and noticed that CompUSA, OfficeMax, Staples, all of the these type stores carry USB sync/charging cables, but from what I saw, only for ipaq, palm, toshiba, and sony. But nothing for dell. They didn't even have screen protectors for the Axim. I got my USB cable off ebay for $2.75 + $5.99 s/h.
