I've been looking for a case that

1. Would protect the screen (preferably from sitting on it)
2. Would protect the Axim (all the connectors)
3. Could carry accessories
4. Could use the headphone jack while closed

I've seen some cases that'll do a couple of these items, but not all.

Anyone see a case that may fit my desires?

Also, what would you like in an "Ideal Case"?

Maybe we can make some suggestions that a manufactor will take note on and make one.

I basically just want a hard case that will hold the Axim with the extended battery in place.

I'm looking for a hard case with a flip type cover. Would prefer a thin case as the one Dell provides is a pocket full. Had a Palm IIIxe and really liked the fact I didn't have to mess with a case or cover, just flip it open.

My ideal case would be a tight-fitting case with the extended battery; has a soft inlay as to protect the screen; Slots to allow all AXIM connections, including one for the CF card slot, so that I can use my GPS and wireless LAN

I guess I am going in the opposite direction of most folks, I am looking for a 8.5"x 11" or so sized zipper folio style case for my Ax (just arrived). I have tried the RoadWired Deluxe Folio Case, but despite there description that it would accomodate a .75" deep PDA, I can tell you it doesn't even come close!

I have a lot of forms, gadgets and dohickys that I need to bring to meetings and out into the field with my Ax. I bought the Ax to replace 1 1/2 inches of paper contacts and calendars in my old paper style organizer.

But I will probably get one of those sleek wallet style cases too for the weekends eventually.

Lovin' my Ax already,
Steve

No body has a wrong idea---

I'm just looking for more options in a case. I haven't found what I'm really for yet.

Just ordered a Nite Ize case:

http://www.niteize.com/pda2.html

It looks rugged enough. I'm not looking for a fancy, "look I'm an important executive" type case.

All,

I've found an inexpensive solution to meet my needs for a case while I look for THE case.

While looking in the PDA section at Best Buy, I noticed a section of Targus universal PDA cases. Believe it or not, the Axim fits these cases perfecty. Better than that, they have a belt loop as well, which is what I'm really needing since I'm away from my desk quite often and I need to take my data with me. Some people prefer not to have a nylon case with velcro closures, but this case definitely meets my "functional" needs of a case over the "attractive" ones.

The thing that made me jump at the purchase was that the one I was looking at was considered an "open item" since it didn't have it's paper cover, so they were only charging $1.99 for it instead of $15.00. Bargain!

The cases only have a single pocket at the back to hold one (or maybe two) sd cards, but that's it. The PDA can't be used while in the case and none of the ports other than the headphone jack is accessible while in the case, but for basic portability, it's a great case.

Until I can find a case that allows access to all of the ports and has a belt loop or clip and won't also drag my pants down around my ankles due to the weight, this one will definietly meet my needs. Simple yet functional. I can keep all of the other items I need in my brief bag.

Hope this helps some of the more budget-consious members out there.

- Mark

innopocket- www.innopocket.com is coming out with a nice case that I might actually get.

Rhino skins is said to be developing one as well.

When this site was started that was one of the most requested items, a good case (particulary metal)

Sena also makes a great looking leather case for axim very nice, just not what I want.

Personally a metal case to protect against daily bumps, falls, hits, crashes and bullets would be great.

A slim, metal holster/case with soft material inside to prevent any scratches or nicks. It should also have a belt clip with a retaining hook to prevent slipping off.

It should also be able to protect the Axim from everyday use and abuse while in the case... bumping against the side of a desk or against a seatbelt, dropping, etc, etc. Not that I've dropped mine

The perfect case?

1. Metal and sturdy enough to withstand "back pocket" pressure while protecting the screen.
2. "Gaskets" or doors for accessory slot/headphone openings to limit environmental exposure when nothing is protruding.
3. A minimal form-factor with a curve to match the contour of the Axim. (Perhaps a foam lining with cutouts for a SD and CF card.
4. A study latch.
5. Something that either folds back on itself or flips up for on-the-go writing.
6. Little rubber feet of Axim-esque rubber slip pads for shirt pocket gripping action.

The best case I have found is from 'Grinder Gear' www.grindergear.com. They have 3 to choose from and all protect your Axim in foam and fliece lining, have a bunch of room for extra batteries, cards, stylus, cell phone, cash, credit cards, etc. These cases are built to be taken 'off the road'.

PS if you take their survey, they will give you 5% off on all orders.

I like the Grinder Gear cases, too, except that I don't want to take the Ax out of the case because then it's unprotected from me dropping it.

My ideal case (haven't found it yet) would hold the Ax (without Velcro) and:

- spare battery
- WiFi CF card
- 2x SD cards
- earbuds
- beltclip

Since I used to carry a Palm V, in my back pocket, the AXIM is quite a wad without a case. The standard case is almost impossible to load into some of my pants. I have been using is the same way with no ill effects for 3 weeks so far. I have a all black Sena case (no belt clip) from http://www.senacases.com ordered. Their pre-order $29.95 price ended 02/27/03. The metal "Cover-Up" listed here http://www.thepocketsolution.com/ looks to be the slimest option I've seen. There are still too many valnurable edges left unprotected for my likes though. I though I read somewhere that Inno Pocket http://www.thepocketsolution.com/ was going to be making a metal case but I see nothing currently listed on their site for the AXIM. I'll let you know how the Sena is hopefully the end of next week.

Thanks,

Mike

Clear Plastic Case
I have seen an IPAQ with a clear plastic case that opens to the side. The case allows access to the card slot and headphones. I think the sides are open too, and that would work well with the rubber grips and jog dile on the Axim. I am not sure if this is made by HP or by another company. Is there a case like this for the Axim?
