I am running an X5 with A05 Bios (Pocket Pc 2002). I have a 4 gig sd card that I am using with programs installed on it and it seems to work ok
My problem is when I go to Settings and check my sd memory it is only reported as 1G.
Also, when I put an avi file on the card and try to find it the file name never shows up.
Can anyone help me with this?
It has been widely reported on this site that the X5 cannot utilize SD cards in excess of 1GB, regardless of operating system. If you get your card to work beyond 1GB of files, please report back with details for the specific card you are using.
Before I buy a larger capacity SD card is somebody able to confirm (or deny) that a400Mhz Axim X5 upgraded to pocket pc v.4.20 / wm 2003 will only see a maximum capacity of 1 Gbyte on SD card.
I'm currently running a 2GB Panasonic card with a 400mhz X5, ROM A05, and Pocket PC 4.2 and mine reads the full 2GB on the card. What I've read on other sites is that you have to be running WM2003 and the car has to be no faster than 40X.
Those of you that says >1GB works, can you confirm that files past the 1gb mark are readable? In other words, can you fill the card up and see all the files?
Merely checking your storage card via Settings, System (Tab), Memory, Storage Card (Tab) and seeing the correct capacity of your SD card means nothing.
I'm currently using 1245.31MB of the 1921.13MB (Post Formatting) available on my card so yeah I'd say it works
This is still not confirmation. Do what peter_n says and actually open a file beyond the 1GB mark (one of the last ones you copied to the card) and see if you don't get an access error.

i'm using a pqi 4gb sd card & it shows up in my x5 w/ wm2003 as 4gb (well, actually 3.72gb formatted), although i can't say for sure if it works with over 1gb on it as i don't think i've ever put that much on it yet. i might try that out to see if it still works...

:approve:Great! Now I would be interested to see if you can access files beyond the 1GB mark. If you get a chance, please post your results.
ok, i've got a video file that is definitely past the 1gb mark which i can see & play just fine. i'm using a pqi 4gb 150x sd card.
***but-- that file started before the 1gb mark. when i added & tried to play another video file, tcpmp is telling me "file not found"... not sure if the file is corrupt or what, so i'm going to have to retry it later or try another file when i have some more time... gotta get ready for work now.
ok, looks like i'm having the same problem of not being able to access files written past the 1gb mark, awesome! anyone know of a fix?

The fix is to get another pda. The 1GB SD limitation for the X5 appears to be hardware, not software, related. If you need >1GB storage, use the CF slot.
