Different brands SD and CF cards

What to choose.........

I already discovered that it's "better" to have a big SD card so I can still use the CF slot for GPS or modem or other gadgets :D But now I'm wondering if there's a big difference in quality and brands.

I found a bargain (using this site) for a 256 MB SD card from Lexar. It just costs around $65. Is this a good choice? And don't ask me if I need that amount of space........ I recently bought a new HDD, 80 gb and it's already full (with MP3 hehe)

My experiences are that you can't have enough friends........... and memory ;)

Thanks.

Alex

Welcome to the fun of shopping for an SD card.
Search these forums for SD and problem or something similar. Also check out happycheesecake's website, specifically setup to detail the problems large numbers of people have had. I'm walking the minefield myself, not helped by trying to buy them in Germany.

avoid sandisk for the most part

There are tons of posts in here about problems with SD cards. San Disk sounds to be the worst offender in the Axim; even though Dell sells San Disk on their site--go figure :crooked:

I've seen a couple reports of problems with the Lexar but nothing like the san disk cards. I just bought my san disk 256 from Dell and it turned out to be one of the few San Disk cards (you can tell by the manufacturing number stamped on the back of the card) that is working with the Dell. There is a link to an extensive list of these manufacturing numbers that will tell you which work and which don't. I found that link on a post in here someplace.

If you're a Costco member, or know somebody that is, you can get 256 SD cards there for that price or a few cents cheaper and not pay shipping. Sometimes compusa runs some good deals on the Lexar but it's usually a mail in rebate.
