Ugh... So, buy.com has this rebate for the 45.99 SimpleTech 256 MB CF card that makes it 35.99. Great, I figure I'd take them up on the offer.
So, I make a purchase on the 28th of August then re-read the rebate to see that I need to have the rebate posted marked by 9/15. So, I head back to buy.com and see that it hasn't shipped yet (5 days after my order) even though the site says "will ship in 24-48 hours." So, I fire off an email to their support asking what the status of the order was. In the time I wrote and sent that, I received an email saying they were "still searching."
OK, so then I received a response from buy.com stating that the order was backordered, but it was now in stock. This was Sept. 3. I missed out on the August rebate and found a new September rebate so I figured I'd go for it.
After being told it was back in stock I made a new order. 4 days later, still the same problem my order never shipped. So, I contacted support again and again they told me the item was backordered.
So, in the time that they told me it was back in stock and then I made my new order (about 30 minutes) it was sold out. My opinion was that the item was never in stock to begin with no matter what their site says (which, by the way was "In stock will shop within 24-48 hours" the entire time).
Over the past 3 years I've been a pretty loyal buy.com customer getting hard drives, keyboards, mice, stereos and other electronics from them. I explained in my last message that they've lost a customer. All of their email responses showed a lack of care about my situation.
Just felt like I should share my story. For now I'll just deal with my one 256 MB CF card from Amazon.com and hope I do get my rebate for that. But at least I have the product
