Hiya folks. I received my new IR keyboard today, followed the instructions in the tiny manual, and the darn thing doesn't work. I've also been hunting online for way too many hours and am about ready to throw the darn thing in the trash, but first I thought maybe just maybe there's some undocumented step I need to follow to get this thing to work, so I thought I'd check in with you experts.

1) Does it matter if Beam is turned on or off? The manual says turn it on. Somewhere online I read turn it off. It's infrared afterall... doesn't it need to be on?

2) I enabled the keyboard via the PDA software. Um, nothing happens. I can type all day in the little box and NOTHING appears on the screen.

3) Is there some magical key combination you need to type on the IR keyboard to turn it on? The manual didn't mention anything, and there's no obvious ON/OFF button. What the heck.

4) I have replaced the battery multiple times, from a new battery package, so that can't be the problem.



Please help if you can. V. frustrated at the moment. Thank you thank you thank you!

I've tried installing the 2003 and the 2002 versions of the software, with the same results. Neither one works. Assuming this keyboard is crap, is there such a thing as a keyboard that will actually work with my Axim X5?

I used to use the targus IR keyboard with my x5 which was great because there was a little mouse that also worked on screen. I would imagine tha IR would need to be on as you said for it to work (that;s how it worked on tmy targus one), I did a google to try to help you and apparently others have had your issue with that keyboard as well, no matter what version of wm they were using. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.

not sure if you googled it or searched this site, but a lot of stuff came up, with probably a lot being junk results though.
