I recently obtained a Dell X5 PDA and decided to buy a wireless compact flash card for it so that I could access my home network and internet wirelessly. I purchased a Sparklan WCFM-100 card since these was said to support WPA security. The instruction manual shows configuring WPA settings but after installing the driver I can only see options for setting up WEP security. Is it actually possible for this card in combination with a Dell X5 to support WPA and if so how can I achieve this?
My Dell Axim X5 has ROM version A05 installed and hence is running Windows PocketPC version 4.20.1081 (build 13100). It has an Intel PXA250 400MHz processor and 64MB memory.
I don't believe WPA is supported in WM versions before WM03SE. I'm not sure why a CF card with it's own drivers cannot, but your experience is consistent with previous posts I've seen.

You may want to check to make sure you have the latest drivers.
Also, I'm not sure if your X5 will work with WPA encryption. You may want to do a search thru the WiFi forums to see if anyone else has identified this problem with their X5.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have checked the Sparklan website for the latest drivers and confirm I do have them. I was hoping there might be some form of update for the PocketPC software, but I gather that there is either release 1 of WM2003 or release 2 and no incremental updates in between?
To my knowledge there was WM2003 and then WM2003SE. After that was WM5. I assume then release 1 was WM2003 and release 2 was WM2003SE. I also assume you have PocketPC 2002.
When I research your WiFi card there seems to be conflicting reports as to whether it'll work with your operating system. Some say it does and others say it doesn't.
You may want to ask the question on the Sparklan WEB site. They may know how to get you up and running.

No, Fruitcake has WM2k3.
I'm not sure this is a question of wether the card works, but rather does this card when combined with this PPC support WPA encryption. As ike has stated above, it does not.
I was responding to his previous post about the OS. And, I added he should go to the OEM WEB site with his issue.
