Seiko Smart Pad
The Seiko Smart Pad looks like it might be useful. I wonder if anybody out there has one, and if so, what they think of it.

Thanks in advance for any replys.

I've got a Smart Pad II and used it with my Palm Vx. I found it of limited use, myself. I could see it being useful if you need to make doodles and drawings a lot, or if you wanted to quickly tap out items on the installed keyboard underneath the paper pad.

They do not work with the Axim, though, unless Seiko has finally come out with the appropriate drivers for the X5 recently. Check this out before purchasing.

It does work with the Axim but don't use the software that comes with the product, use InkPad Manager V3.3 instead. Also you will need SmartPad 2e for PocketPC.

I find it reasonably useful for drawings etc but to make it work with Word etc, you will need to purchase OCR software.

maybe i just dont get it because i need some help, i bought a smartpad, but i cant use the software that came with it b/c it says i dont have any palm software installed since i have a ppc, fine so i look for the ppc software online but it says its an extra $30 unless you own a previous version of ink manager... so am i really supposed to pay another $30 bucks to use this thing or should the previous version be on one of the CD's i got with it?

Edit: ok i got it to work as in i downloaded the v3.3 and it installed and everything, but for some reaons i cant get it to work! when i write nothing happens!!! i set it at the default com port 2, and the pen type is smartpad.... now what?

Edit: ok i got it to work, it works great, too bad i have notes in the Notes section and this will only work with those notes writen on the smartpad so i cant put my old notes in with the new. oh well ill just print them out or something lol.

I have one. got it for 20 dollars at compusa. I had to get PPC2003 in order to get it to work and I had to turn off the checkbox in the IR settings. But it works.

I was going to use it for notes in class this way i can always have my notes with me at all times. I have a habbit of bringing a different notebook every time to each of my classes. I figured this would be my best solution. Plus i can have the hardcopy of the notes to put in a folder somewhere.

I have yet to actually use it for that purpose tho.

At the time i was looking for something where i could just write directly to the axim with out actually using paper but this was the best solution i could find with out needing to buy a special kind of paper.

ive hence decided not to use mine either but i wont use it b/c the reason i got an axim was to have my notes appear typed since i have ugly handwriting, and as great as the smartpad is... i still dont have good handwriting so if i were to use a smartpad it would be a waste, for that i would have just bought a notebook for 39 cents rather then the axim...

I will like it when i start to use it.
I mean for 20 bucks it's kinda neat. It turns into a jpg file so your a little limited on what you can use it for. If the screen on the axim was bigger i wouldnt have thought to get this, but i cant write on the screen effectivly.

Writing on the paper pad works well-- you have a permanent record of your notes but also the electronic version that's more handy. I've used mine pretty often and like it pretty well.
