I figured when I bought a universal keyboard (www.citipack.com.tw, folding IR keyboard) that it would be compatible with the Axim. After all, it says on the box that it is compatible with PocketPC 2k/2k2. I chose the drivers for the iPAQ (under the belief that this is the closest thing to the Axim from their list of known working systems), and I get the error (Unable to open irComm port). Does the Axim use a different method of interfacing with IR?
1) Make sure them beam receive is off on the Dell. Start/Settings/Connections/The box is not checked.
2) If you installed the driver with a memory card in the Dell (SD or CF), remove the driver, remove the memory card(s), then reinstall the driver on the Dell.
If neither work, then the driver won't work on the Dell. E-mail the company to see if they will be updating the driver any time soon <_< .
Good advice - I had the same problem with my IR keyboard (should have read your post earlier - I probably should have gotten the Dell keyboard instead). Here's a question for anyone...when typing on my keyboard, my screen dims after a couple of seconds. Does anyone know how to keep the lumination on? Also, I've read somewhere that you can make your screen horizonal so you can read the axim on it's side. Anyone know anything about that? Thxs.

Which IR keyboard do you have? I have the Pocketop keyboard and it works well. It also comes with drivers that allow you to do the screen rotation (although you need to do a soft reset whenever you want to change the orientation). You can download the drivers that handle the screen rotation from their website (http://pocketop.radiant.net/drivers.shtml).
The "autodim" can be reset by going to Settings/Brightness, then clicking on "External Power" or "Battery Power" to change the dimming behavior as necessary.
I have the "Wireless IR-Universal Type" keyboard (pretty original huh). There's no other name on the keyboard or it's user's guide. I bought it from suntekstore.com, who when I told them of my problem gave me the great advice of re-installing the active sync program. Yeah, that would've helped.
If I download the driver from the website you listed, can I still use the rotation device even though I have another keyboard driver installed? Thxs again.
Do you know anything about a new driver for ppc 2003 and this keyboard - I have one and can't use it cos of my OS. I'm so freakin mad cos citipack won't return any of my emails...

some quick googling has lead me to what might be useful information. the product-shot of citipack's IR-501 wireless keyboard (I assume that's the one in question) looks practically identical to the wireless IR keyboard sold by moonlight technologies (http://www.moonlight-tech.com) and they have a special driver for use with the dell axim. if they are identical products then maybe you can get the dell driver there.
I'm using ppc2003 on my axim 5 with a keyboard that came with a cd from citipack and I can't get it to work. Any suggestions. I think I've tried everything! How did you get your to work? Have you done anything special?
I just bought an IR 503 model on EBay - says compatibility with X5 models. I've done all the things people are recommending, but have not had any luck making this thing work. I went to citipak online & they do not list drivers for the 503 model (only 501 & 502). Where do I go from here?
ver IR-503
any way mine workes fine
very easy 2 learn
advice:
-the ir led need 2 b very close 2 the ir receptor (i have dell x50v)
-battery power
-torned "ON" the keybored in the program in the pda
any way i 2 look for newer drivers for new functions.. like with the edit, new func for the palmos wold have worked in the win ce
