802.11b access point plugs into RJ-45?
I'm wondering if there is a small wifi adapter that plugs directly into an ethernet port. I am wanting it to be discreet, so a regular access point is out of the question. TIA

my room mate has one. I'm not sure what you want.
He has a linksys game 802.11g adapter on his xbox. Works great.

Are you doing this where you work? I hope that your company's IT Department has some sort of rogue access point detection.
We actually watch for MAC addresses and get alarms when a new MAC address hits the network. We can isolate it by switch so it's usually easy to find. We haven't had any rogues, but we've noted when folks have brought in a personal notebook computer.

I am wanting to use my Axim X5 with wireless card at my college. Some professors get angry when you get on the Internet during class. This way, I could get online without them even knowing it. And I could even get on AIM! (Yes, the school has gone as far as to remove the Java VM so that AIM Express won't run).
Essentially, I want a discreet (doesn't have to be tiny) AP to plug into the switch. I suppose I could even unplug the ethernet from the computer and plug it into the AP.
I would just get a CF LAN card, but it would be pretty obvious what I was doing if I had a CAT5 cable running to my PPC ;) Thanks for your help!

I guess I am missing something. If your college has wifi and you want to be discreet on your X5, why not use a CF WiFi card in your Ax?

The college does not have wifi. I am looking for a way to get a wifi AP snuck in so that I could use my CF wifi card.

So I take it there is an ethernet port in the area that will connect the AP to the college network. To use your CF Wifi card there will have to be a wireless network present so an AP is your only option. But that is very sneaky. You are better off using your cellphone to connect to the internet.

Sounds like the only thing I could do is take out the ethernet cable from the desktop I am working at (or an unused one near it) and plug it into a small AP. Is there such a thing as a battery-powered AP? A changeable MAC address would be good too, if they do have rogue MAC detection.

Wow! Thanks a bunch, that looks like exactly what I need. I have done some searching and it looks like it's not on the market yet, but depending on the price it might be in my future!
Thanks again.
