CF camera Questions?
I was wondering if anyone has the compact Flash camera that goes with the Axim 5 from Dell? If so what do you think of it and is it worth it for taking pictures and uploading them to a photo blog? I am torn between this and a camera phone. The other half though is willing to let me get the CF camera over the camera phone because of the price. If you have a sample photo from the camera Id like to see it along with other pros and cons.

I bought one of these a while back and can summarise what I think of it in one sentence - you get what you pay for.

As a camera for a bit of fun, it's ok. The software on the PDA makes it quite hit-and-miss to get the quality right. It transfers to the PC without problem and the desktop software is fairly good. The max. size of a picture is VGA (640x480). Pictures that look good on the PDA screen can sometimes turn out blurred or washed out on the computer screen.

The biggest flaw in the design is the manner in which photographs are taken. The camera swivels - when you hold the PDA with the screen facing towards you, you can take pictures of yourself.

When you want to take pictures of somebody/something else, the camera can be twisted the other way, but it doesn't go far enough. To take a picture, you have to hold the PDA flat and lean over it to see what you are taking a picture of. You can't hold it vertical, like you would with a picture phone. This makes it quite cumbersome to take a picture.

In summary, as a toy, it's fun for a few weeks. For any kind of proper photography, it's utterly useless.

If you dont have a Digital Cam at home and plan to use this as ur main camera...its not worth it....i mean it is, but it isnt good enough.

You should either buy a good Nikon, Sony, Olympus camera or you can get a better CF Camera which will only be a tad better than the Veo. I suggest u look up the FlyCAMs as they may be a better bet. I've ordered the FlyCAM-CF 1.3MP W/Flash and im expecting it to arrive anytime this week

What about the new Veo with a 1.3 megapixel....it utilizes the SD slot on the X3....I can't see why it won't work on the X5 as well. Holding the PDA might be awkward....but for the higher quality pics....I'd do it.

The new Veo wont work because the X5 slot is only SD (it can only be used for mem cards) and the X3/X3i slot is SDIO which means it can be used for other accessories and that Veo cam requires an SDIO slot which the X5 doesnt have

I own the FlyCAM-CF 1.3MP W/Flash. Very acceptable pictures depending on your expectations. Camera flash is key for low light situations.

I got the same camera but I've been having some issues with it. For some reason it sometimes does not read the card. Comes up with a message saying that it can't read the card. What sucks is that I can't pin point or reproduce the error everytime, its random.

I find with a lot of these products, the first thing you do is throw out the install CD that comes with them and go straight to the manufacturers website.

I have had the same kind of problems with my bluetooth CF card, the Veo Camera and one or two other items.

Give it a go. Uninstall everything to do with the camera, go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. I'd be very surprised if it doesn't work.

Does the camera comes with the flash, does it get the power of the pda, how much is it?

What other problems have you had?

Best regards,

Caonabo

.
.

It comes With and Without flash. Get it with the flash unless you'll never be using it in anything but Daylight/Outside.

Yes, it uses the Axim's battery, and uses it capriciously.......which is why I bought a Mugen3800 Extended Battery.

I bought the VEO Digital Camera for my dell axim X5, and I like it, for the times where you want some quick pictures or movies, but you don't want to lug around a video camera, or a digital camera. The quality is pretty good, i think it is worth my $70. But if you want something for professional pictures, don't just rely on this, you need a REAL camera. But for $70, you can have quite a bit of fun.
