Any concern about repeated SD/CF insertion/removal
Of course there is no long-term experience with the Axim yet, but I am wondering what people think about the risk of lots of card insertions and removals. I would think that if you are doing it often you might end up wearing out the connections, especially the spring-loading in the SD slot. I am leaning towards a case that let's me keep my wifi card inserted all the time (battery isn't an issue).

What do folks think? Any experience good or bad with other PDAs?

If you do it that often, you'll go blind.
I have not heard of any problems with this. Just don't use brute force on the insertions & you should be ok.

It is possible that the connector contacts will wear out before the ejection spring. Some pin- and receptacle- type connectors on your typical PC are rated for 500 cycles, BUT most will function much longer than that. There are even some higher quality connectors that are tested up to 10,000 cycles! I would expect the CF card to be somewhere in that (rather large) neighborhood. I'm not sure about the SD, though, because I don't have one (yet!) and so I'm not familiar with the contact system.

From what I have read the SD typically are engineered for 10,000 cycles or insertion and removal. I am sure th CF has something close to those specs as well.

Now meantime faliure rates, I have not heard any word BUT I am sure if there is some problem, Dell would warranty the unit. By the time it fails, I am sure that there will be better, smaller, faster units out in the marketplace.

I wouldn't worry about it unless a child got ahold of it and thought that it would be a cool place to store things in.

I agree, the Axim will be obsolete before the slots wear out.
