Called Proporta . . .
And after much debate, I decided to order the proporta aluminum case! I think this will be the safest case for me as it will mostly be protecting my Ax while it is being carried in my purse.
And I talked to a customer service rep (they actually have a toll free number for us Americans!) and I could talk to him all day! His accent made me swoon! Ok I admit it, I watch the BBCAmerica channel! I just love those accents!
Anyway, he said the case should be shipping in 3-4 weeks, plus they send out a neoprene case in the meantime. I thought about the sena case a lot! But the price difference after shipping (and tax for me, rotten California) wasn't much, and there is too much open air space around the Axim in the Sena case. Just this weekend my sister-in-law knocked over her can of soda right onto my Axim, fortunately in the Dell zippered case (which I am returning cause it doesn't fit right! Hello! Made by Dell for dell and it covers up the buttons? What is with that?). If it had been exposed anywhere, it might have been death to my Axim. I think with little ones around, it is safer to have complete coverage! :D
Anyway, I will let you all know how wonderful my case is when I get it!!

I'm seriously considering the proporta case myself. I just wish it had a a belt clip. I'd really like to have an aluminum case with a beltclip, or at least a decent holster. I wonder if i can graft a beltclip onto the case. Hmmmmmmmm.

I've also ordered this, as I've come across a lot of good reviews of the iPaq cases they make.
I received the neoprene case yesterday. It seems quite small. I'm expecting my Axim to arrive today, so I'll be able to tell if it fits in the temporary case. If it does, the Axim will be a lot smaller than I've been led to believe by reviews!

When did you order, and how long did it take to get the neoprene case?
I can hardly wait!! Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised and it will be closer to 3 weeks than four!

I ordered last Thursday, and the neoprene case arrived yesterday (Monday), so it was quite quick.
I hope the aluminium case will be manufactured soon though. The neoprene case is nice, but to secure the Axim into the case requires sticking some velcro to the back, which I am not so keen on.
and...
my Axim arrived today, so I'm still busy loading on various applications

Just an update. I have tried fitting the Axim into the neoprene case. It does fit, but it is quite tight! I thought that would be a problem in that it might turn the Axim on, but the buttons don't seem to get pressed.
Oh well, it is only a temporary solution but it does seem quite well protected once inside.

same as innopocket
http://www.innopocket.com/EShop/Main....php?name=iPaq
The innopocket case (also coming out in March) appears to be the same case (at least for the ipaq)
http://www.proporta.com/detail.asp?id=276
Proporta is $39.00 where as the innopocket is $29.00 (we are still talking for the ipaq but a $10.00 difference for the same item is significant to me.
What do you guys think? A neoprene tight fitting case isn't worth $10 bucks to me.

Shipping charges at innopocket are something like $14 or $16, so I think the end price for each is very similar.

Belt Clip for Aluminum Cases
I noticed Staples has a Fellows and a generic brand belt clip that attaches to mobile phones or PDA's. The nub attaches to the PDA and then you have a quick release belt clip that the nub slides into. My plan is to get the aluminum case and attach this to it. I believe it should work quite nicely.

I have bought 5 or 6 of those belt clip attachments for various phones. I have seen them at wallmart, target, bestbuy, circuit city, and places like that. Anywhere from $5 to 15$.
I have never had a problem with the "button" coming off. I end up buying a new phone before they wear out.
I just recently got one that came with a gizmo that attached to the heater vent in the car. Works great for the cell, but not sure if it is sturdy enough for a pda.
I think that as long as you clean off where the sticky tape (most seem to have the 3M adhesive tabs) attaches, you should have no problem.

Shipping charges . . .
Proporta shipping was only $3.11 for me (they say ~3.50, but it based on the current exchange rate.) And you also get a neoprene case while you wait! Which mine shipped already.
With Innopocket, the Axim case isn't even listed on their site yet . . . I guess if you are committed enough to Innopocket, you will wait for them, I have been very pleased with Proporta's customer service, communication, and generosity. Worth any "extra" cost to me!

Moonlight-Tech also sells Innopocket's aluminum cases and their shipping quote is $4.25 for all US customers. Innopocket will begin to take pre-orders soon I hear, so maybe Moonlight Tech will allow us to pre-order from them as well.

Does anyone know if the Proporta or Innopocket aluminum cases will allow access to the SD slot, jog stick, record button and reset buttons while still in the case?

gretchenree - you mentioned open space around the sena. do you mean there are gaps with no leather (e.g. sync access)? or that the case is too lose?
i was also unhappy about the dell zipper case and was offered a credit (and keep the case). good to have until i receive the sena. but i'm still looking, collecting info!
