CF Vs SD/MMC with multimedia

Ok, forgive another stupid question, but:

Does Compact Flash have any benefits/problems over SD or MMC cards? I am going to buy a 512MB CF car mainly for MP3's and video files. Would it be better to go for a smaller SD card instead? does one perform better than the other when playing media on the X5?

With all the SanDisk problems, I am tempted to not bother with SD cards, but if they are better at media playback, I may get one of them instead.

On an unrelated note:

Whats the best method to clean a washable screen protector? I have a Bosity protector and cant seem to dry it before dust has re-infected the sticky side...

Many thanks

CF would be better for multimedia since access to the CF slot is generally faster than SD. IMO. Read access times are generally faster as well.

In regard to the washable screen protector soap and water has worked for me.

Interesting... I wonder why so many people buy SD over CF given the choice then?. I know with the X5, the SD not being SDIO means the CF card is normally used up with BT/WiFi cards. But in general people seem to buy SD over CF.

Thanks for letting me know, I will be ordering my CF card tonight then!

Again back to the screen cover, how are you drying it? im loathed to use a hair dryer in case it deforms, and leaving it dry naturally lets dust/debris re-settle on the sticky side.

Thanks again

While some CF cards may be faster than some SD cards, I doubt that you would be able to notice the difference in everyday usage. I don't think that this is a big factor for most users' purchase decisions.

For X5 users, I'm sure that the use of the CF slot for WLAN, GPS, and other cards dictates the use of SD cards for general storage. In my case, I use CF cards for music storage since I don't usually listen to music and use my GPS or WLAN card at the same time. I have my GPS maps and program storage on SD cards.

It really all depends you how you use your PPC. You are right. More people by SD cards than CF cards for memory. The is IMO due to the trend of more devices going SD than CF. You will find only a few devices that offer CF slots and tons of devices that have SD slots and no CF slots. Based on this trend some people may feel that if they buy CF cards they will get stuck with them.
