56k Modem

What would be a good compactflash 56k modem to purchase for my axim? Best cost and power consumption.
Thanks,
Earle

A fair number of people have said that the Ambicom is pretty good. There is also a review of it on the reviews section. I bought it at CompUSA a couple of weeks ago for $29.99 after rebate, but I am not positive I am keeping it yet so I haven't opened it yet.

I've been using the ambicom for a couple of months now. Very fine modem and quick to install/setup. No problems connecting and using with ISP or Corp. Dialup RAS. VPN was still a bit quirky. Probably network stuff on our side.

Touted as "low-consumption". Seems true. Use it for couple of hours at a time with surprisingly little drain (have just the regular battery).

Sitcks up a bit from the top of the Axim (~1"), so you'd need to carry it in a side pouch.

Overall, very pleased with price/performance. Would buy again and (obviously) have no problem recommending to others.

I also bought the AmbiCom modem a couple of months ago. I really like it and have had no problems with it. I use it with my Earthlink ISP.

Worth a shot, especially if CompUSA offers it for about $30.00 again. (I got mine at BestBuy for about $60.00)

I use Targus CF Card. It has an xJack connection so most of the time I don't have to use a separate cord. Just unplug the phone cord from the phone and put in xjack connector. It folds flat when not in use.
