Cradle Charging

I have rec'd my cradle, but my Axim is due next week. Several have warned me that the cradle won't charge my Axim - that I need to plug in the AC adapter into the cradle to charge. I called Dell today and, after being put on hold after each question, was told that the cradle definately charges the Axim - it's only plug in required is to the computer. In fact, the cradle get's it's "juice" from the computer.

He could not explain why the cradle I have has an AC input.......

So! I would appreciate some help as I want to order an additional cradle for work and want to order an AC adapter if needed (but don't want to if not).

Thanks in advance!

Where does Dell get these people from? The only thing Dell sells that charges your Ax is the AC adaptor. You can plug it directly into the Ax, or you can plug it into the cradle and plug your Ax into the cradle. There is not "charging juice" from the computer.

Mexico maybe, Austin isn't that far away from the border you know. :)

A more appropriate question would be who do they have entering data into their Expert Systems software? How these phone people don't have access to that kind of information just boggles the mind.

I just hooked up my cradle (have been using a third party USB sync cable that also charges the Axim with my laptop) to one of my PC's and wondered the same thing (do I really have to plug the AC adapter into the cradle??).

With the cradle just plugged into the USB port, the little charging light on the Axim was not lit and the unit timed out like it does stand alone. When I plugged the power brick into the cradle (plugged into AC), the charging light on the Axim came on. I will continue to assume you need the AC plugged into the charger to charge the Axim.......

I have not tried or looked into this yet, but will the Axim accept the AC power brick plug when sitting on the Dell folding keyboard? If so, I guess I will be shopping for another power brick. Are there third party power bricks that will work with the Axim? One with a 90 degree adapter into the Axim would be nice.....

1) Cradle will ONLY charge the Dell with the electrical adapter plugged into it and an electrical outlet (ok, the second point probably does go without saying ;) )

2) There is a special port on the Dell expandable keyboard (in back on the left of the middle section) where the electrical adapter will plug in while the keyboard is plugged into the Dell and will charge the Dell.
