Received My Lexar 256MB SD Card Today

I ordered a 256MB Lexar SD Card from YesMicro yesterday around 1:15PM CST (standard ground shipping). The UPS driver delivered it to me today (less than 24 hours from order time). I was very impressed with the fast delivery that YesMicro offered.

Now on to the 256MB card. I have had opportunities to pick up Sandisk SD cards at very cheap prices, but was not going to buy one because of all of the problems people are having. I've used Lexar products in the past, and have had GREAT results with use, reliability, and best of all speed.

I plugged my SD card in the Axim the second I opened the package. Transferred a 41.7MB AVI (through ActiveSync....but no conversions taking place) in 7 minutes 22 seconds. Pretty slow compared to my past experiences with Lexar flash memory. I calculated the transfer rate of this AVI transfer.
43,802,624 bytes * 1024 = 42,776KB
-----------------------------------------------
7minutes * 60 + 22 seconds = 442 seconds

42,776KB/442sec = 96.78KB/s

I used to get much faster than this on the Lexar MemorySticks that i have used. I'm hoping that this slow speed is just due to my using ActiveSync for the transfer throught the Dell cradle. I'm going to pick up an SD USB reader later this week to see if speed improves at all. I'll keep you posted on my findings when I get the reader.

I have a SanDisk 6 in 1 reader and transferring files with the reader to my Lexar card is much, much faster than using ActiveSync.

Great! I knew it would be faster, but just wasn't sure how much. If anyone has some transfer speeds, I would like to see for comparison sake. But I will probably pick up a reader tonight to test out anyhow.

Reader Helped A LOT!!!

Okay.....so I was out tonight and picked up a Sandisk 6 in 1 flash memory reader. Hooked it up (via USB 1.1), and tried to transfer the same 41.7MB AVI file to the SD Card. This time it took only 37 seconds!!!! That equals out to right around 1156.11KB/s. This is almost 12x faster than ActiveSync could handle the transfer. I tried a few other types of files just to be sure...and results were almost similar with both ActiveSync and the flash reader. So if any of you don't have a SD Reader yet, and transfer large files very often.....GET ONE! :)
