Installing applications to SD or CF memory instead of main memory

How can you install programs to the SD or CF memory instead of the main memory and can you move applications with out removing and reinstalling applications? When I have installed applications it doesn't seem to give me an option as to where to install it.

You won't be able to move apps around on the Axim, but you can install them onto the SD or CF card using Active Sync. In the options, there is a check box for installing into main memory or using main memory as the default location (I'm not at my home puter so I don't remember the exact wording). Uncheck that, and then when you install apps, you will get a box asking where you want to put it. At that point you can select the SD or CF card in the dropdown box.

Try uninstalling the apps from the Axim, and then reinstall onto the storage card.

I do this a lot for games so that my internal memory isn't hogged by them.

:)

Also keep in mind that some programs don't like to be run from one of the cards so you sort of havet to try it and see.

The wording is "would you like to install to default location" click no and select where you wish to put it.

One more note, some programs are installed directly on the PPC by CAB files. You can use CabInstl (freeware) to control the install location for these programs.

YOu definitely can move apps around on the Axim. Locate the folder of the app, cut-paste it to the new location (made much easier if done from desktop). Then go to Windows->Start Menu->Programs and ->Games if needed, right-click the shortcut and redirect it to point to the new location.

I have done this to two programs that refused to install into the storage card (e.g. CAB files), and also deleted multiple shortcuts created by some installations.

You're welcome ;)
