I fixed my Dell screen protector
There has been a good deal of speculation about why some people are happy with their Dell screen protectors while others think they're terrible. My experience may be able to shed some light on that question.
I ordered Dell screen protectors with my Axim. When it arrived, I installed one of the protectors and immediately noticed the same thing others have complained about -- wherever I pressed, such as in the SIP area, the protector stuck to the screen except for small circles around each of the tiny holes in the protector. The result was sort of like looking down on a honeycomb for part of the screen.
I have some leftover protectors for my Jornada 548, so I decided to see if they would fit. I took the Dell protector off and set it aside while I fiddled with the Jornada protector, maybe five minutes total. After deciding that it probably wasn't worth trimming the 2mm off the Jornada protector in order to get it to fit, I reinstalled the Dell protector. Guess what? NO MORE STICKING! No matter how much I scribble on the screen, the protector just doesn't adhere to the screen any more, so there's no more honeycomb effect.
I'm just guessing, but I think there must have been a smidgen of condensation (or perhaps residue from the protector's backing) between the protector and the screen that was causing the sticking, and exposing it and the screen to the air for that five minutes must have allowed it to evaporate. At any rate, it's working fine now, and I can understand why the people who are happy with their Dell protectors have no complaints. I've already ordered a Brando, but I wouldn't have done so if I had made this discovery earlier.
YMMV, of course.
