Wifi to Wifi?

A friend and I both have an Axim, and we're thinking about buying 802.11b CF cards. My question is, can we buy two CF cards now, without any sort of access point/wireless router, and use 'em to connect both axims together?

We mainly wanna do this to play certain multiplayer games, and later on down the line, buy the access points for full functionality.

The short-answer to your question is maybe. WiFi does allow for what is called an "Ad-hoc" connection where there is no access point or router present. I myself have done this between my Axim and a laptop. Where the "maybe" comes in is how well this might work between two Axims and whether the game(s) that you want to use will work in this setup. Some people on this forum have reported problems trying to get Ad-Hoc to work, problems that were instantly resolved when an AP or router was added to the network and everything was switched from "Ad-hoc" to "Infrastructure" mode.

Search the forums (and the web) for Ad-hoc and you should find lots of info, though I have personally never seen anything that discussed direct PDA to PDA connectivity via WiFi.
