1 GB Compact Flash

I'm looking at buying a 1 GB Compact Flash card. Does anyone have opinion about performance, battery life, etc.

Thank you,

I bit the bullet and purchased one when I bought my Axim. It has worked flawlessly (as far as I know - this is my first PDA). The only thing I have noticed is that when I copy a large file (movie file approx. 100mb), it takes forever. I have heard that if you use a card reader/writer it is much faster.
I have some data files as well as programs installed on it.

Most likely it the same amount of power and speed as any other CF memory card. The axim can only transfer data at a certain speed because of it's 4bit pathway. And I assume the power drain will be the same as other CF memory cards.

if transfer speed is an issue, buy one of those $20 usb cf card readers from best buy or whoever, the transfer speed is much better and file transfer is more reliable. in fact, i think san disk makes one that will read sd/mmc/cf/memory stick and 2 others for $49. i bought one from circuit city works like a charm.

Check PriceGrabber for 6 in 1 readers:

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g...4dee0a8da3ff8e

Lots of them out there, and you can find them for practically nothing.

Even a USB 2.0 reader for 33 bucks after shipping and tax.... Can't beat that.

i have a microdrive, $150 bucks on e-bay. do it. the power will drain a little faster, but the speed is nice. i use a 4-1 media reader and the drive is bloody quick. i use the microdrive for mp3's and pictures mostly. i have 256 sd in the side for programs. compared to cf memory, you can get a 1 gb microdrive cheaper.

Exclamation

I have a 1 GB Sandisk that I bought from Dell, and after tranferring a bunch of MP3's to it, it reach about half full, and then told me it was full! I've only transferred 450 MB onto it, yet it's telling me I can't put anything else on it! Any ideas, anyone? It seems to me I remember reading something about reformatting the CF card...does this ring a bell, and how do I do that to get full use out of this monster?

Monster. Hehe, that's funny. Come back in a few years and 1 gig will only be able to store like three addresses and everyone will be lusting after the 2 TB card & waiting for the price to drop.

I have the 1 gig Sandisk. No trouble. Have overe 600 meg loaded. I usually use an external reader for loading large aounts or large files to it. I have Old Time Radio shows on it and music files. The OTR files are up to 10 meg each.

Dell $160

Good deal - thanks for the replies. Anyone know anything about formatting CF cards?

And yes, in probably a year or less, this "monster" will seem like the old Radio Shack TRS-80's...:D
