Mad X5 3in1 stylus - WARNING!

I just thought i would write about about my experiance with those "3in1" stylus's that contain a ball point pen, on the other end of the stylus, That are avaiable on ebay.

i decided to order them after leaving my original Dell stylus on my desk at work *doh*, and after one night of using a cotton bud as a stylus i decided i would order some of the above because they looked like a handy neat idea!

i had not had my X5 long so i hadnt managed to fill it with vital information, before the plastic tip covering the pen and that helps in removing the stylus came off when trying to take out the stylus to work on my PDA. This had the undesired effect of leaving the rest of the stylus in the slot of my X5 with no easy way of removing it. I tried everything i could think of from tweezers to needle nose pliars (very small ones) to try and remove it.

It was after all of this that i realised i had to open up my X5 and remove it that way.

those of you who have opened up a X5 before will know that this will disconnect the backup battery and hard reset the X5.

As i said before the information (not that there was a lot)on my X5 wasnt vital, but i can easily imagine there are other users on aximsite that would cry if they lost there information in this way and did not have a good recent backup.

i hope reading this has been as educational for you as it was for me experiancing it.

Rob

I lost one of those cheapies in my silo that way too but a pair of needle-nose pliers took care of it no problem. Sorry you lost your data :-(

Sorry about your loss data. I had the same problem. I was fortunate enough to have a set of surgical tweezers (really small point) , and way too much time on my hands. Does anyone make a good pen/stylus? I gave up my old one and went back to the dell stylus, but sometimes it would be really nice to have a pen with me.

When that happen again just try to put a tiny spot of glue on a needle or something like that, wait enough and then pull carefully.

Why didn't u backup ur pocket pc to a card or bis before opening it. Just use a pencil as a temporary stylus even though not suggested. but, it all erases.

To remove an object stuck in a hole, use a screw, screw it into the object (in this case, the stylus) then pull. you *can* use a drill for this, but on soemthing like an axim, I would NOT recamend it...

Good Pen/stylus

PHD makes a great 3 in 1 Pen. I have purchased 2 of them after ink ran out. They contain Black ink pen, mechanical pencil and Stylus tip. Plus they look good. I found mine at Wal-Mart I think. Good luck. :approve:

Ouch. I have a "3"-in-1, but haven't had any problems with the pen cap coming off when I don't want it to, it is very stiff in the cap. Of course, I got accustomed to using my 4-in-1 pen with a stylus tip, but I'm using the 2nd party 3in1 frequently. I do understand that other people have had this problem, and there are some previous threads. Won't waste my time searching, just take my word for it.

Yeah, I had that same problem, but I found a little scotch tape wrapped around the part keeps the cap on nicely.

I've been using PDAs since the Palm was a US Robotics Pilot (yes I'm old) :)
I've always been afraid to use a 3-in one, type of stylus, since with my luck, I'd use the ballpoint on the screen :waaa:
