X5 battery charge voltage?

I need to supply power from my device to the
Axim X5. Anybody know about the required
voltage/currents involved?
The AC charger puts out 5.4V . The USB
charge cable puts out 5V. The thing draws
more current than USB can supply. How is this
handled? Does the supply have to be current
limited to prevent battery destruction?
Is the barrel connector supply input different
from the voltage input thru the sync connector?

I've seen a LOT of absolutely horrible charging
design decisions on laptops. Ideally, you'd
put in voltage with sufficient current capability and the PDA would take care of all the limiting issues. Is the X5 well behaved in
this respect?

Ideas?
Thanks, mike

5.4 volts positve tip @2.4 amps is the specs on the charger if your power source can supply the voltage and current at this level you are good to go

Yep, that's what's on the label. But that may or may not be the whole story.

I've got a laptop that uses the current limit
in the power brick to control the charge current. The explosion prevention system relies
heavily on the match between the battery and the
specific current limit characteristics of the charger.

Back to the original question...
I can buy USB charge cables. My usb port can't supply anywhere near 2.4A. Nor can it supply 5.4V. But the cable claims to be able to charge. I'm kinda wondering how this all works.

The usb will only work when your battery is at 70% or higher it does not draw that much current at that level.
