Speaker - Not Loud Enough
I've got the volume all the way up, but I still have a hard time hearing my GPS over the normal driving noise. I don't want to use a headset as there are others in the Jeep as well. Suggestions, besides buying a quieter vehicle?
Thanks,
Mark

Don't you use a sound feeder through your FM radio? That would mean that my dear wife couldn't fiddle with the stations on the trip......not a good thing at all:crooked:

Powered speakers should work. You may need a splitter to power both them and the GPS at the same time.

Are there battery powered speakers available that you know of? I just took a quick errand trip around town and used an old pair of headphones. What a difference!

if you have an auxiliary jack on your head unit, run a plug straight from the headphone out to the aux plug, and switch to the aux channel on your head unit...this would play the voice prompts through your car stereo, also works with mp3's.....

Sorry to sound dumb, but what's the "head" unit? I have the standard am/fm/cd/tape that came with the better quality sound.

i'm sorry, the head unit is exactly what you described, your cd player/radio/tape player...i'm guessing that you don't have an auxilliary input, what model and year is your jeep? do you know which audio package you have?

I have a '97 Grande Cherokee Laredo with the better sounds package. Sorry, I can't remember what it's call!

from what i can find online, the factory jeep soundsystems do not have auxiliary input capabilities....
there are several ways to hook into your car stereo system...but the VERY easiest way is to use the auxiliary channel on your head unit. basically, if you have a decent newer model aftermarket headunit, you probably have an auxiliary input on it, which is just a way to input a signal (music) from an external device (i.e. a handheld mp3 player, discman, mini-disc, your axim, etc....) into your headunit so the signal can be played through your car speakers. the connection is made by a cable with 3.5mm (????) jacks on each end, the same as on your axim. you plug one end into your axim headphone jack (which is an output), and the other into the headunit's auxiliary jack (which is an input), and change to the auxiliary setting on your head unit. the signal can then be played through your head unit, and you can adjust the volume accordingly....
i've had many different aftermarket headunits, most have the auxiliary jack on the back of the unit (not very easily accessible) however i have had one with the jack on the front...
on a side note: i just realized how horrible i am at explaining things in writing

I just saw the Akron CM525 powered multi-media PDA mount for the Axim. They sell it for $69 and hopefully I can find it somewhere else for less. This seems like a easier fix for me. It comes with a built in powered speaker and the whole thing plugs into the lighter.
