newbee - gps and wifi questions

hey all -
looking for some advice on both gps and wifi for my x5 running ppc2003 w/CFII. does anyone make a combo card or do i have to use 2 seperate cards for this? BT or wired, which is best? any suggestions on model and where to purchase would be greatly appreciated. from what i have read so far it appears that the linksys or belkin seem to work well for wifi but many have mixed reviews on the BT or wired debate for GPS. Has anyone used the iGuidance program? thx in advance

AFAIK, there are no combo cards for GPS and wireless. If you go with BT, you'll need a BT adapter for the PPC (the X5 does not have BT built in). There is also the option of a CF GPS card (I use the Fortuna which works very well) but you may want to think about what your next PPC might be since many manufacturers have moved away from CF slots (Dell 'left' with the X3, X30 models but has moved back with the X50).

I'm not a big fan of Linksys (although many people here have had success with their WCF-12 model. Stay away from the WCF-11 as they never provided drivers for WM03) and the Belkin CF WiFi card blocks the earphones port. I think it's safe to say the favorite card with the X5 is the Symbol that can be found on eBay for around $30.

Some Advice

I have an Axim 5 with A CPF Haicom 305N GPS and Iguidance Software. I also use GolfPS on this PPC. They all work very well. The Haicom comes with a SD slot built into it. You can use most brands of SD Memory in this slot. That leaves the SD Slot in the Axim 5 that can be used for a WiFi card. I believe that is the best approach to having both a GPS and wifi (also additional memory) using a Axim 5. The only question is whether the drivers will be compatible. That I cannot answer.

Good Luck

John

Leaving the sd slot free on the X5 for a wireless card won't work. The X5's sd slot is memory only (not sdio compliant).

Did you have any trouble with this setup. I purchased the Belkin CF F8020 and the GlobalSat BT 338. The drivers for the F8020 will not load with either PPC 2002 or PPC 2003. Did your drivers for the F8T006 load correctly? Which OS are you using?
Did the GlobalSat link up correctly?

Thanks for you help...!
