chameleon,
Try running the built-in X5 hardware diagnostic utility with both the CF and SD slots empty. Here's the way to launch it:
1) Take out both the main and backup batteries. Wait for a few seconds and then reinsert them.
2) Hold your X5 on its side against your torso, with the Power button to your right,
3) Simultaneously press and hold the Contacts button (just to the left of the big circular D-pad with the Dell logo), the Soft-Reset button (use your stylus, or press hard with your left index finger), push in the Jog Dial lever (the flip lever near the SD slot, push it in until you hear it click - DO NOT flip it!), and the Power button. I use my left thumb to press Contacts, my left index finger for Reset, Right thumb for Power, and right index finger for the Jog Dial.
4) Release the Reset and Power buttons, while for ~ another 10 seconds continuing to hold down the Contacts button and pressing in on the Jog Dial lever.
5) Once you see a white screen, you can release all buttons/levers. If you don't get the white screen, try 3) and 4) again.
6) Once you get the white screen, follow the on-screen directions to run the diagnostic or abort it.
If your X5 doesn't power up and/or you can't get the diagnostic to run, then I don't believe your X5 is salvageable (did you use the right ROM update?). If the hardware diagnostic runs fine, then if it still won't power up properly after a soft reset (needed to end the diagnostic) you'll need to re-flash the ROM using a CF card and the "
bootloader method" originally described at the following link:

Let us know if you have any success in reviving your X5. Good luck! :approve:
