PIE can't surf, but other progs work

Hi folks,

I'm experiencing technical difficulties with my trusty X5. My old wireless router died and I picked up a new one and installed it on Saturday. Since then I've been unable to surf using PIE. What's odd is that AIM and mail work. I can log onto AIM no problem, and I can check POP3 mail just fine. When I try to suft to any web page I get "The page you are looking for could not be found."

I've dug through all the settings and can't see anything that would be causing this. I can even sync via wireless. I can see the Axim got an IP address when I go into the router setup and check the wireless page. I'm guessing that the IP is working since I can log onto AIM and POP my mail account just fine.

Any suggestions? I'm fresh outta things to try at this point.

Thanks,

Gary

It sounds like a DNS problem but I'm not sure what the solution might be. Even though it's a new router, you might check the manufacturer's website for newer firmware.

Hi Ike,

I tried entering a few IP addresses for some websites directly into the address bar, but couldn't connect that way either (same error message). If it was a DNS problem I think that would have gotten around it, wouldn't it? The PC's that are connected both can surf just fine (one wire and one wireless).

The fact that AIM and pop3 mail works but PIE doesn't really has me confused.

Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks,

Gary

I figured it out

Well, I figured it out. I feel like a total knob though!

The proxy server at work has been misconfigured for over a year. If you didn't enter its address in your proxy server set up (on a desktop or PDA), you could connect directly to the internet (and they couldn't filter content or track your activity). Well, the rocket scientists in systems finally figured it out last week and fixed it so you have to use the proxy server now to access the internet.

Naturally, I put the proxy server into my connections set up and forgot about it. After installing the new router I fired up PIE and couldn't connect to anything. I started going through Ike's guide step by step tonight and found the stupid proxy server from the office in my set up. Removing it solved the problem immediately.

I'm totall embarrassed , but figured I'd post just in case someone ever was having similar problems.

Thanks,

Gary

I'm glad you got it figured out. I know how it feels to find out you caused the problem yourself, especially when it was something you did on purpose.
