Where is OS data stored?

Where does PocketPC 2002 store its data, for items such as tasks and appointments? I haven't found a file hidden anywhere in the file system, although there might be a file stored somewhere that I haven't found or haven't recognized.

The reason I ask- I'm trying out a program that keeps its own task list or actually multiple lists. I wanted to see what format it used to store its data but could not find a file with the data in it. I'm wondering if it has its own hidden database somewhere, maybe even a shared database with some of the system programs. It doesn't have any provision for open/save like other programs have. OTOH this makes it quicker to use since you don't have to search for a specific file to open.

Pocket Outlook stores contacts, appointnments, etc. in a database, although I don't know where the dbase is or what the file name is.

What program are you using? Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion both share the Pocket Outlook dbase. Basically, if you can install your program and immediately see Pocket Outlook information, and if Pocket Outlook can see information created by your program, then you know that both programs are using the same dbase.

PPC programs often don't have open/save options because there is no disk to save to. It takes a while to get used to. Everything is in RAM, all the time. It means there is no place to "save" anything. It means the PPC can start very quickly because there is no "boot" process. It also means that any power interruption, no matter how brief, will give you the "opportunity" to rebuild you system from scratch if it's not backed up.

the PIM database is hidden from view and file explorer (or other 3rd party) on you PPC cannot see or have access to it.

If you have your Ax connected to your PC, open Windows Explorer and under "Mobile Device", there is a system folder called "databases" under "My Pocket PC" where your PIM datebase are stored.

I was working with "PocketList" which kept its information stored somewhere, but probably separate from the other PPC databases. The program itself is stored on my SD card, and I can terminate it so that it is not running in memory, but when it is restarted its data is back.

I believe all programs that store data have to store it in some form of "file" in memory. Otherwise you could terminate the program with the Dell switcherbar or some other third party application and not have an opportunity to save the data. When contacts and calendar information are entered that data must be stored to its "file" immediately.
