Sounds to me more like a USB problem, for which the fix would be to buy a USB PCI card. If you are using a Dell Dimension, it is *definitely* a USB problem.

I've been lucky with A/S, but I know not everybody has been. So thanks for the tip -- you never know when you'll need it. Instead of deleting the file, you can always just rename it. Then, if you find trouble later on, just put the original file back.

Yes, I think when the file is deleteable, it means that at some point it was overwritten or changed. That is the way PPC2002 works, i.e., you can overwrite a ROM file, but it really isn't overwritten, there is just a hook in the registry that says use the new file in RAM now as the file, instead of the ROM one.
If your file was not deleteable, that just means that it was OK and not your problem.

I have a question. I'm having sync problems right now, so I tried to delete this file to see if that would help. WinCE reports back that this is in ROM memory and cannot be deleted. Is this just some sort of file corruption on my Axim, or is it possible to be in the /windows directory and also be in ROM? If it's a file corruption problem, anybody know how to fix this? (answer is hard reset, right?)

If the file is in ROM you cannot delete it. It will show in the Windows directory if the operating system needs to see it, but it will be flagged as system, read-only.

Maybe it was just a one time fix for me. Something had overwritten it causing my problems -- which means that my original rom file was still there but the OS was now pointed to a new file by the same name which I was able to delete, at which point the old file in ROM took its place.
