Standard voice recorder gives silence after 10 seconds

I have an AXIM X5 that came standard with Windows Mobile 2003.

To start recording, i click Start -> Notes
Then the little tape icon at the bottom.
Then the red record button that appears.
A slider appears that is moving.

After a minute or so, i click the stop button and a file called "Recording1" appears.
By clicking it, the recording starts playing and i hear all sounds that were recorder.

BUT... ONLY THE FIRST 10 SECONDS...
The rest of the created audio files are always filled with silence, no matter the options are set to built-in memory or SD card which both have plenty space left.

Does anyone know why that is and how to correct it?

Try this. Do a full back-up to BIS or SD, then hard-reset and check the recorder again. This is a ROM program where uninstalling and reinstalling is not an option. If the recorder works after the hard-reset, restoring from the back-up will not help. You will have to reconfigure the device, load your programs, etcetras.
