How do the X5 buttons handle NES emulation?

I have been looking at the 400 mhz X5, but i spend about half my usage time using an NES emulator. I heard the Axims can have really squishy controls, which was the only problem with my former Toshiba e740. Is there an Axim (preferrably a slightly older one I could get cheaper on Ebay) that would do this nicely?

I use it for SNES emu & it works fine, the "D-pad" is a little squishy but if saw a post a while back on how to fix that.

Do you use the Axim's buttons for gaming or the onscreen buttons? I prefer action games so the controls are a pretty big issue for me. It sounds like if you can play a DD game successfully it must work ok. What exactly is the X5 Basic, anyway?
