whenever i try to connect to a network share for the first time after turning the axim on, no matter what program i'm using to access it (resco file explorer 2003, misc. other progs), it will take a good 90+ seconds before it connects and in that time the axim is frozen. sometimes it takes so long i have to reset it. it even does this after i've mapped the drives that i use in resco. is this normal? i'm using a linksys wcf12 and d-link router. i have a few computers connected to the network wirelessly and all are very quick when it comes to browsing the network and accessing the net. i guess i'm wondering if it's supposeed to be this slow because everything seems to be set up correctly, it only does it the first time i browse after i turn it on, after that it connects at a somewhat decent speed. is there any way to speed it up at all? i'm running win2k or xp on all the computers that i'm trying to connect to.

Make sure your WiFi card shows to be connecting at full speed. Perhaps you are connected but at less than 11Mbit. You might also try the registry tweak to increase network packet sizes:

the thing is it's only that slow the first time, like it is having a hard time initially connecting or something. oh and thanks for the link on the tweaks, but i dont see the one for increasing the packet size there.

I have WCF12 also. I tested it at my work and I didn't have the issue. Though it did take a few seconds before the connection was made, it definitely didn't take that long. My signal strength was not that great either (~40%)...

Looks like I left that tweak out of the tutorial - sorry 'bout that. Here it is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\

Change the "TcpWindowSize" value from 32768 to 65535.
