You bet. I can't believe how accurate it is. My handwriting is unreadable to most people, but transcriber doesn't have any problem. Just make sure you go through the alphabet and specify your style of writing and that the orientation is correct for how you hold your Axim while you write.

I've tried best as I might using all the info I've found here, and much to my dissapointment I've yet to ever have it recognize my handwriting. The letter recognizer works very well for me, but I sure wish the handwriting part did. Maybe somebody should create a class on handwriting recognition on PPC or something??

One thing you have to ensure is that the little arrow (lower left-hand corner of the screen when Transcriber is being used - above the "New" button) is pointing in the correct direction. For example, if you hold the Axim in a landscape fashion, make sure the arrow is pointing "up." Up will vary depending on how you hold the Axim when you write.
Did you go through the alphabet, indicating the different ways you write letters?

Yes, tried changing the arrow to different directions as well as setting up all the different ways to write the letters. I just can't seem to get the hang of it for some reason. No to mention how to correct it when testing it out. Pretty confusing to me.

Yeah. The correcting part can be a drag, at first; however, after some time and practice, it should become quite a bit easier. For me, editing is no sweat because I don't even have to think about it anymore.
Maybe try to go back to the alphabet and be more conservative with specifying how you write. That is, eliminate as many variations of the letters you possibly can. Use "often" only for the variations that you actually do use often. I noticed a huge performance improvement after I did this.
Or, you can just get a keyboard and be done with it, but Transcriber does have it's uses. Keep trying.

Try CalliGrapher (demo available from www.handago.com) .. it recognizes my handwriting better than Transcriber.

Remember to "hold" or "double-tap" letter shape characters
When using the letter shape program (the writing style "teacher" for transcriber), make sure to "hold" the stylus on each individual/group letter style. This will show the actual motions used in composing the character, i.e. location and direction of strokes. You can also double-tap.
The may be obvious and understood within this thread but, as a new user, it was not immediately obvious to me.
Continue to return to the letter "shaper" as you experience problems - I am still noticing subtle differences in the styles that I missed the first couple of times through.
I have had my Ax for one week now and, after some initial frustration, I am VERY satisfied with the transcriber feature!:D

For a great replacement for those having problems with the Ax recognizing your handwriting, take a look at Fitaly at fitaly.com. It is a totally new keyboard layout and application that takes come getting use to but is very accruate and fast. Actually the learning curve is a bit steep, but it becomes easier the more it is used.

Well, I've tried all that. It now seems to work about 1/2 the time, wish is a bit better, though the Letter Recognizer works for me 95% of the time. My writing results just now:
Phone call with Gerald - Got: Phme Call wltr Gerald
Time to go play - Got: time to gr Play
Meeting with Patty - Got: Meeting inth Patty
Thank the nice people who helped me - Got: Thank the Niel People ubr helped me.
So, it is a bit better, though not nearly 100%. I'll work with it a bit more maybe and see what happens. Thanks again!

It helps to write large letters/ write anywhere on the screen
Here are a two points that you may find interesting:
1) The software works best when you write large letters. Try one word per line. Don't worry, returns will not happen based on the orientation of your script...you have to use a command for each return.
2) Following along these lines, you can even "overwrite" your script. The software will enter your script in sequential (chronological?) order - the geographical location of the words is irrelevant!
If you were to type the alphabet in sequence from a-g, for instance, you could orient the letters:
a d f c
b g e
As long as you write them in alphabetical sequence, they will come out in type as " a b c d e f g"
or, you could stack the letters on top of one another - it's the sequence and not the geography.

Also key to using the transcriber well is to be able to bring up the alternative list with the quick correct gesture ( hilight word then down up ).
Between that and the correction window I can enter into the transcriber quickly and easly using a botched printing/cursive mix. If you can stand it cursive is actually much more accurate for the transcriber.

Well, I've been trying those suggestions. Is there a trick to getting the gestures to work? I've been trying the down/up gesture as well as others and it simply draws the ink. Nothing happens.
Thanks!

The up down does not work in all applications... dunno why. Just bring up the corrector window and enter into that and then hit ok.

The gestures take a while to get used to. I find that when I do them quickly, they tend to work better (e.g., a quick up and down or a quick checkmark).
