Start, Settings, System (tab) About: version 3.0.etc is PPC02; version 4.2.etc. is WM03.

Windows Media Player (*.wma) files work fine on the PPC with the WMP included in the OS and I think 32-bit rate works fine and makes for fairly small file size. You can create these from the PC version of WMP directly from your CDs.

A small button battery: CR2032

CF cards are less expensive and you could get a mini hard drive for less than flash memory but if you have any plans to add auxiliary equipment (WiFi, Bluetooth, video out, GPS, etc.), you should go with an sd memory card because the sd slot on the X5 cannot be used for the accessories.

I personally avoid Sandisk cards (there were some major problems with Sandisk sd cards in the early days of the X5. While they've supposedly fixed the problem, I'm not willing to put anymore money into their equipment). I've used several other brands (Lexar, Kingston, PNY, and probably a couple of others) without any problems.
